well, it was fun while it lasted. Does Huerter loss move the needle now?
No. It makes room for the better Keon and athleticism, and Huerter is just a meaningless presence.
But Monk's lack of presence will sure hurt.
I hate to have to say it, and it might not be true anyways, but I hope Malik is OK and if anything will keep him in early bird territory, this might.
But, that pales in comparison to how it will negate our season . Monk is very very integral to what we do, no other way to say it.

Monk out 4-6 weeks with an MCL sprain. Major, major blow...
It would take probably winning a round to see him back on the floor.

Next season it is then.
Management decided to stay pat before the season started, and did nothing at the deadline. Injuries are a factor but the team as configured is what it is. If the Kings have first tier ambitions, the core of Sabonis, Fox and Murray as well as the support players needs to be better.
For me Sabonis is a very good all round player but needs a real power forward or a center who can distribute next to him for the bigger tougher teams. A real 4 is needed for the play offs and a higher levels of achievement. Until that player is here, all the small ball in the world won't get the Kings to the top of the mountain.

Why did I have to be so right so soon?

Davion balling, may be back to being a solid pick. In that draft I thought Davion/Wagner were solid, was high on Giddey, liked Jalen Johnson and was intrigued by Sengun
All, besides Sengun would have helped the current structure a lot. But glad Davion looks like he can be a plus backup guard (knock on wood this isn’t just a good stretch). Spells good things if we can’t re up Monk, or even if we can

PGs take some time to develop. I think with Davion, he just needed more time to grow. I'm glad it looks like he found his stride lately. Bodes well for his future and the future of this team.

We will see if he can dominate in the playoffs before anointing either him or anyone else?

Re: 2023-24 General Thread
I'll give him the end of the year, and playin/playoffs to show out, but, it if it stands like this in depth dissection needs to occur regarding the difference between Fox of the first two months, and the rest of the year. Hew was a legit MVP candidate type presence, and dissipated to non efficient inconsistent guard. Obviously, I personally think motor is the culprit, but, he handled it and the team handled it much better last year. And he had a much better year. Since he's still one of the team's top couple of players, its a conundrum that needs to be figured out for the team to have a good chance of ascension in the coming years.
He showed top tier talent for the first two months, so I'm not ragging on natural ability, but how the team parlays that into any type of consistency..

Still curious to see how much Malik gets offered. Grayson Allen had a fantastic season averaging 13.5/4/3 with good defense and 46% from 3. He got 4/70.
To me Monk is right in the ball park we are at. And like I've said over and over, if Orlando comes in offering 4/100 congrats to Monk, but that isn't a good contract.

Yup.
Would like to keep Monk around what Grayson signed. Hate to lose Monk but he is not worth 4/100 as a 6th man.

Ya I mean worst case scenario I really like pivoting to Utah.
Duarte + Barnes + Huerter for Collins + Clarkson.
I haven't always been the biggest Collins fan and I'm still not, but I think his athletic ability would strive next to Sabonis. I also think having another + rebounder would take a ton of pressure off Sabonis when we play against big teams. Clarkson coming off a down season but still has gas left in the tank. I'd still bring Monk back if possible, but this should help if he does leave.
Sabonis/Len
Collins/Lyles
Keegan/#13
Keon/Clarkson/Colby
Fox/Mitchell

It was always a matter of time before he got a head coaching opportunity. Best of luck to Jordi in Brooklyn!

What are your thoughts on him as a head coach?

I think he's going to be a good coach in this league. There's really only so much you can really know about an assistant but he was very well liked and respected here by everyone in the organization. He did a really good job coaching Team Canada as well so I think you guys got a good one.

Re: 2023-24 General Thread
About the Grayson Allen contract, I'm sure he likes it in Phoenix but hopefully it portends the market and how he Grayson felt the market might play out.
Its happened a couple of times in recent years, where guys, like him and Naz Reid for example, who hadn't made that much in their careers, didn't want to fool around with the musical chairs of free agency. If it plays out wrong, your forced into a deal you don't want with a team you don't want.
Thats doesn't necessarily mean that the contract is what they think they would earn on the actual market, it could be sizably less to short the possible down comings of the insecure free agent process when their are only a finite amount of funds to go along (and Graysons contract is about equal to Monk's early bird given Monk being a bit better now). That could come down to personality, and how much you believe things will play in your favor.
I still think Monk will get that contract offer because of how bad the free agent market is, but that injury gave momentum to the contract being possibly enough
