Unacceptable to forget him. My bad.

He didn’t demonstrate enough to be put ahead of guys like Nash, Pau, Bill Walton, etc.

Not a bad list, apart from the crime of listing Maravich over Nash.

Or Barry, or Pettit, or Mikan, or Gasol.

Over Walton has a pass because his prime in the NBA lasted 1 season and a half.

The Bonus list is not in a particular order.

I get that people like Nash over Maravich. I'm just a Maravich fan

More All NBA level.
And I am going to say that Manu was better, actually

That’s not a fair comparison
Manu played 16 seasons and Drazen 4
But if you take their first 4, there’s no debate in Drazen’s favor
In a time with many more barriers for these type of players

If we want to just focus on both their 3rd and 4th seasons (Drazen's big years), I'd still say it's Manu. Drazen was no question the more fiery pure scorer and putting up bigger scoring volume (with elite efficiency), but Manu is better at everything else. Big advantage as a driver, playmaker, and defender. Then you have Manu's run to the finals in 2005 when he puts up 21/6/4 on 50/44/80 shooting splits and sticking daggers in the heart of one of the best defensive teams of all-time in the finals.

I meant listing Maravich over all those guys is also borderline ctiminal.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.

Being a Maravich fan is fine. But, for a more exaggerated example, I was a fan of Brian Scalabrine, too; I wouldn't be listing him over his betters either. Maravich was a lot of fun to watch, but he was very much not better than Nash (or several of the other guys you have beneath him on that list).

Yes, fun to watch, in an era where the stats were not inflated like the Nash era.
He was also a better defender than Nash (but who isn't ?)

Nash is vastly overrated to me, but fun to watch too.

Based on those comments, I don't think you understand the era that well at all, tbh.

Yes, it was brief, I'll grant you that.

You complain about stat inflation in an era where stat inflation for assists wasn't that much of a problem. You're talking about stats at all in a comparison between one of the more efficient guys we've seen with a volume scorer who was most often at or below league average efficiency and had a significant turnover problem due to his more-flash-than-substance style.

"Stat inflation" is a common enough cry when people don't want to appreciate a given player, same with most era-related type complaints. Maravich was logging heavy minutes per game and couldn't come anywhere near that level, even though others in his day were able to reach the marker. He just wasn't as good. Now in terms of specific efficiency, we obviously don't want to compare pre-3pt line to a guy who was one of the more important game-changers in that respect, for sure, but relative efficiency still exists for that purpose.

My point, fleshed out, is that I don't think you properly appreciate either the 70s or the mid-2000s in a way which renders your argument about era concerns sound at all.

Steve Nash Drtg : 110.5
Pete Maravich Drtg : 102.2

And there is a strong illustration. Individual DRTG isn't really of value in direct comparison... nor is it in any way salient to stat inflation in the given eras... Have yourself a nice day.

And next time you will tell us how great Nash was on defense.

wtf

Pretty sure the poster is just referencing Kobe Bryant and the first time he played against Manu. He asked Bruce Bowen “who’s the white boy?”. Bowen replied “he’s no white boy”.
