Yeah. I love that most campaign strategies are based on optimizing relatability - and here they went 'screw it, we will market him as an alien, don't even pretend you have anything in common with Wembanyama''.

English in general is completely wack when it comes to pronunciation, there really is nothing like it at all. Not hard language to learn, but their pronunciation system is something else. Thats why these guys see name BJELICA or AVDIJA, and have no clue how those words make the sound that it does lol. And I know, if you are Spanish, letters C and J also sound different thank most other Euro languages, but I think you can still make sense why BJELICA sounds the way it does, to all of us, Bjelica is pronounced exactly the way it is spelled, but some North Americans thought it was Bee-Jell-lick-ka

Yeah, English spelling is insane.

The mispronunciations of a name like Bjelica is only due to one of two things:

1. Not knowing the rules for how to pronounce that country's letters

2. Stupidity

3. (I'll add one) Not caring/passive-agressive xenophobia

I don't think it really has anything to do with English spelling being so haphazard, though it certainly is.

EDIT: The way you said some pronounce Bjelica is probably exactly how it would be pronounced if it were an American name, so that would almost certainly fall under #1 on my list.

Bjelica is an easy name to pronounce

English makes very little sense. There is English education channel, and they have lecture on letter A and how it can be pronounced 9 different ways  I mean, ok, outside like Serbian Language, some letters sometimes can be pronounced in like 2 different ways depending on combo, but 9 different ways?

Or take the word ''thought''. Then take away the last letter and you get the word - ''though''. If you ask anyone who does not speak English but just tries to be logical, they would assume though sounds exactly like thought but without T at the end, right? Well, no, it sounds completely different now. Can be very hard to understand.

Sean and Bean however, I assume you mean the name Sean? LIke Sean Connery? If thats the case, I do not think it is good example, since Sean is not really an English name or word, I think it is very old Irish name, and it is not actually suppose to be spelled Sean, but since English wont use these old forgotten letters, they just spell Sean, which even but English ''logic'', it just should not be pronounced as Shawn no matter how you cut it.

To me personally, Bjelica is easier to pronounce than almost every American name. But English, especially American accent, the way tongue is used, it is completely different than what most eastern and south Euro languages are accustomed to.

I mean I can pronounce AMerican names, but I will struggle and have an accent. Maybe I mispronounce Bjelica, since I am not Serb, but I imagine, if someone told me how to pronounce it exactly, I would probably have no problem repeating it without foreign accent.

BJE-LI-CA 3 syllables that my part of world can pronounce easy I imagine. Leonard or Murray tho? I know how to pronounce it and it should be incredibly easy, but it just isnt, at least to me.

Nike has always been "Nia-Kee". I got my 1st pair in 1981.

Knight and Knecht.

That KUH from Knecht is killing my viewing experience, it's like a **** crow **** somewhere.

K should be silent, don't know who decided otherwise. It's like Kofi Cockburn deciding the ck is silent and it's pronunced Coburn.

No **** homie, you don't get to decide that. There's a c#ck in your name and you have to deal with it.

That looks like a generic silhouette. His legs should be at a different angle. Anyone could draw that outline. Why Nike? It’s not original, a guy just dunking one handed…lame.

It's a little tacky if I'm being honest.

Don't get me wrong, it looks cool, but for a logo that represents your brand, I'd want a more timeless design.

phanman wrote:Can you really blame Jokic? He's been with Nike his entire career leading up to this season. and I've seen really nothing marketing wise for him. He doesn't have a signature shoe, his logo is largely irrelevant and he was only 1 of 200+ NBA players vs being the face at 361 for money. His off-court obligations are most likely just limited to just the off-season and I think Jokic will have more success appealing to that Eastern market with a much bigger population than here in North America.

I think the Wemby's logo is cool. It's different and I like the creativity in not trying to incorporate his jersey number with all the other logos out there. Personally, i'd lose the 2 Nike checkmarks or even use one as a the Alien's smile? - but overall its solid man.

I like your perspective here. I think the reality is that most player logos and nicknames suck nowadays because they were just initials and numbers. I'd rather a logo be symbolic, and this one is and it works.

I also see the core way they did the Basketball Alien design as being quite capable of becoming iconic.

I do think the use of the double Nike logo was unnecessary and may sour the appeal, but I would also point out to people that Nike's logo is iconic precisely because it represents a dynamic shape/motion. This isn't FedEx splashing a bunch of letters into a picture, this is a shape frankly fits fine inside a larger design.
