Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
Buzelis' super power is his ability to process and make reads at 6'9". It's sometimes difficult to see because the G-league is up-and-down and Ignite was awful this year.
Gordon Hayward (before his injury) was someone who could dominate a game with his IQ and decision-making. Buzelis has some of that, plus more length to finish plays with. He needs good draft workouts to allay concerns about his shooting, but I could see him end up as a top-5 pick in June if his pre-draft goes well.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
Jay Huff looks like a keeper. Washington had him. I think he played through his senior season at UVA.BigGargamel wrote:FarBeyondDriven wrote:I'm really struggling over where to rank the older guys I love like Knecht, da Silva and Grant-Foster. They all seem like plug and play starters whereas the guys likely to go over them will take some time to get there, if they ever do. I think the common practice is for teams to almost always take the younger prospect with upside but maybe that's why there are so many "busts" and late surprises. Maybe these picks should be inverse. Like, maybe Grant-Foster should be the one taken in the top half of round one and Williams, who needs years to develop his game, body and change his passive personality, should be the one taken late 1st or early 2nd.
I always mock seniors late in the first round and they sometimes end up almost falling out of the draft completely. Like, I had Trayce Jackson-Davis in the 25-30 round all last year and he was hardly drafted. And now he looks like a keeper. Teams can be dumb.
(I don't like to mention all the times I'm wrong. Just the few times I'm right)
Honestly, I thought practically as much of Huff his senior season as I do of Clingan now. I was surprised the Wizards dropped Huff.

Ron Holland's Gleague stats are in the same ballpark as Jonathan Kuminga's. Holland has similar strengths and weaknesses.

The numbers are great but the 10 minutes of him in the tourney I watched were rough. Sort of Tyler Hansbrough ground-bound PF with no shot.
Where's the D?

Really like Clingan, he gives me Bogut vibes.
Going to be really interesting how him and Edey do against each other.

Dink Pate would be in the mix for a top 3 pick in the 2025 draft. If he's able to come out in 2024 he could go #1. 6'8" point guard that defends. Penny 2.0. He'd be the youngest player in the draft by far.

Dink Pate shot 40.7% inside the arc and 21.4% from three on a team that went 2-32.
He had -0.176 WS/48 which is the worst mark I've ever seen for any player at any level of basketball.

of course this would be your take He was 17 y/o playing against grown men, shooting from NBA distance for the first time.

The hype for him needs to be studied, insane he is still projected in the top 3

Ehh, he should still be top 5 because he has a pulse. He has no talent offensively, but he's a fundamentally sound player on defense with good size who plays very hard so he'll definitely be in the NBA and start if he can shoot 37%+ from three.
There's like no good players in this class so him being top 5 is right.

Right. I keep wanting to move him down, but that means you have to move someone in front of him. Who?
Combine needs to get here already. We need some clarity.

Were they moving to forcing everyone to participate in the combine?

I'm just ready to see who the freak athletes are. In this draft, I'm just gonna pick the combine warrior, cross my fingers, and hope for the best.

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
Edey is obviously too big for Clingan and Clingan will instantly challenge Embiid and Gobert as the biggest player who isn't Edey or Wemby. This will definitely help his stock as those were legitimate concerns (that he couldn't play against real NBA size)

Re: 2024 NBA Draft Thread
Edey's stamina is impressive and I like the thought he might be more durable than most super big guys. However, he will still be exposed in pick and roll sets.
I was quite impressed by Clingan. He won't have to face anyone with Edey's size in the NBA but Edey. He competed hard and is a good passer. If he can hit consistently from the free throw line extended he will be quite effective in pick and pops.
I feel comfortable taking Clingan in the top 6 and if Edey is there with the second first round pick he should be a serious consideration. Obviously, don't pick both of them.

Castle will be one of the guys the combine is most important for (imo). Big difference if he measures as a big guard or as a smaller wing.
Who else do folks feel the combine will be important for?

I want to see how good of athletes Sarr, Williams and Risacher are. Right now, we're still giving them a pass because they're so young, not because of what they've done on the court. They have a lot to prove.
If Topic doesn't embarrass himself athletically I could see him wind up being the top pick. Or somebody that we aren't really talking about right now could come out of nowhere.
