To think we have this guy for another 2 more seasons including this one. He's injury prone and getting old. Overpay?
There was a reason why the Astros were only offering Springer a 3 year deal and a team option (when current Jays VP of Strategy James Click was their GM). Only reason Springer came to Toronto was that no team offered a Guaranteed 6 year deal besides the Jays.
Weren't the mets on him too? I think they offered 5 years IIRC and Jays closed the deal at 6 for him to come
That is correct. Jays came in with 6 years and 150 million, which no other team matched including the Mets. Mets last offer was at 20 million a year (it was reported Mets did not want to exceed that and go to 25 million). The Mets also did not want to guarantee a 6th year, which the Jays also did.
