Chicago & Brooklyn: Vucevic and PDX Pick into the TPE??
Brooklyn has a $20m TPE from the Dinwiddie trade.
Chicago has a $20m center for two more years that I would like to not have.
Chicago also owns a lottery protected Portland first through 2028
Is that pick enough value for Brooklyn to take in Vucevic using the TPE?
Benefits for Brooklyn:
- Vuc is reliably healthy and able to play a lot of minutes
- his efficiency has fallen off for sure - is that permanent or a consequence of his environment (aka would he look better somewhere else?)
- Is a solid stopgap option in the event they can't re-sign Claxton
- Could perform a lot better as a backup if they do re-sign Claxton
- Has shown the ability to play alongside Drummond in double big lineups
This basically boils down to - is the PDX pick enough value here to make this worth it - and that is the question I pose to you all

Brooklyn wants to keep the cap sheet free for the 2025 Free Agency Class.

This is one of the craziest things I have ever seen in 25 years on here.
BK has no need for an overpaid out of touch Center.
They have 3 of the best future 4/5s in the league right now. They have to pay Claxton. They have Sharpe and Clowney. Why would they ever think of doing this? They also are saving the PHX pick for themselves or someone like Luka.

Has to be the G-League, right?
I don’t think Brooklyn does this but still.

Nah, both of Brooklyn's 2023 Mid-Late 1st round picks are Top Tier Big Man prospects

No reason for Brooklyn to do this unfortunately. The POR pick isn't enough, it's lotto protected for a while I believe

I think there are some better destinations for Vuc... I like his fit on the Thunder for example... I also think he would fit well on the Warriors

True. -I very narrowly looked at teams with trade exemptions big enough to take on Vuc (which was just Brooklyn and Atlanta). But there will be teams that could use straight cap space to add Vuc and the PDX pick as well.

Maybe this place isn't for you. You have these over the top reactions and crazy over the top Nets player valuations in every thread. If you want a Nets fantasy value echo chamber PM me and I will help you find one. I want every poster to find their happy place without distorting this one with this kind of hyperbole.

Yeah idk lol, I like Clowney’s prospects as a possible late round steal, and Clax is a flawed but starting quality young center, but lol.
I’m not even sure who the 3rd guy is, Cam Johnson, Wilson?

Right.
I loved Claxton last year and still think he can be a good Center on a Good Team [Top 10-ish Center is very realistic] but Clowney is pretty far away and to be considered Top Tier when guys like Sengun, Wemby and Chet exist is just bizarre.

Back to…I think value in the OP is fine, just Brooklyn is the wrong third team..
Would Orlando bring back their old Vooch? Not the best fit, but they have cap space and history..
Would Charlotte want a vet center with Williams health scare?
Would presti want a first projected to maybe convey in 27 or 28?
But Chicago trading Vuc and banking on Dre and an MLE level finds feels like a nice way to start tanking..

As a Nets fan do you have a price point in which you'd walk away from Claxton this offseason? You have Claxton due an extensions this summer then Thomas and Sharpe due up for new deals next year.
Do you fear locking yourself in to a team that's an 11th seed this year? Is there even a realistic path to cap space in 2025?
I know these questions/situation aren't unique to Brooklyn alone, just curious hearing your perspective on the Nets and this situation

My personal thoughts are if they keep Claxton, they will try and sign him to a deal that averages about $25 mill a season.
If he is getting offers that will be way above that, good chance they try and S&T him.
Also believe they’re going to be players in trades this summer.
Say Mitchell is dealt to BK, they’re probably going to send both the Cams and DFS out in the deal.
Simmons expires after next season, as does Schröder.
If Clax is gone, they probably try and get Sharpe at much cheaper and run him and Clowney as a combo.
But there’s a world where the Nets have Mitchell, Bridges, Clax, a few rookie scale guys and 5 or 6 cap holds going into the summer of ‘25.

would be a weird way to start tanking by giving up a pick to dump a contract. Typically its the other way around

Getting worse on the court is usually the way to start tanking though.

even if Mark was in perfect health, we need another player to take the other 20 center minutes, because despite the opinion a vocal few on here, Nick Richards is a horrible basketball player who would comfortably be in zero playoff rotations this year. I'd be fine with Vuc attached to a pick for the next two years, pending our selection with our top 5 pick. If we snag a big in the draft, Vuc isn't necessary. Otherwise, I would leverage our (small) amount of cap space to take his two-year contract with the pick attached.
Might require some small contracts moving (Richards, the $5.3M guarantee on Bertans, etc) but if we want to make a deal work, we absolutely can.
