Reminder that if you don't want to trade a player, then the contract is only about your budget which obviously Boston feels he fits. This isn't a bad contract as long as he is playing a key role for a contender. Beal and Washington weren't good enough so that is why his contract was seen as so bad. And despite Paul being traded in deals involving bad contracts, he's been a good player and one that teams have actively sought out to make them better.

Sometimes this board is guilty of just looking at size/length of deals and not applying even a little context. I eat a lot of crow a lot, but Chris Paul is one where I get to thump my chest. He was considered a bad contract here going all the way back to Houston--and yet he went on to OKC and was great, went to Phoenix and was their missing piece(I even called that trade while I'm here embarrassing myself by bragging lol). Because people just looked at age and $$ and forgot oh yeah this guy is still a very high level player. Guess what Jrue is?

Jrue played at a very high level... in the regular season. His last few playoffs have been abysmal (TS <50). Will see if the narratives changes this year and if it doesn't, i dont like this deal at all for the Celtics

He didn't play terribly though. He did exactly what the team needed him to do -- defend as well as anyone defends perimeter players of all shapes and sizes and when the offense needs to him to shoot, to be aggressive and shoot. Bledsoe had more attractive efficiency numbers (barely lol) but wasn't aggressive when they needed him to be.

TS% is a neat tool, but too often it gets used as a stand-in for overall level of play and that just isn't the case especially not for a player like Jrue.

Team was 25 points better with him on than off last playoffs. 15 in the championship season. Those are massive numbers.

The on/off numbers with respect to highly paid players can also be a function of not being able to pay good or even decent backups. They get really tricky in the playoffs as the rotations shrink, the starters play a lot of minutes together, and the sample sizes are small. You should definitely look at both on/off and +/- together, in addition to watching the games, in order to get a complete picture.

If a a starter's +/- is close to nuetral while his on/off numbers are great that's usually a sign that the backup or even entire bench units getting worked over.

There is more to life and basketball than TS%. One could argue that he was key to the Bucks Banner. His impact is in solid fundamentals, stellar D, and a steady ball handler that makes good decisions.
