As soon as the last pick in the first round is made this summer, the “7 drafts out rule” would allow for 2031. At that point, the 2024 1st is in the past, so 2031 would be within 7 drafts.
Little different than what Google says.Teams can trade first-round picks seven years out. So most teams can trade a 2031 first-round pick after June 27, the date of this year's NBA Draft.
So, still begs same question. 76ers can’t include 31 AND 24. It would need to be rights to 2024 player (who 76ers drafted and other NBA team had no part selecting) and 2031 couldn’t be added until after draft.
Well, who or what on google is saying that? There’s a lot of places that aren’t specific. Even then, I don’t see that quote differing from my reading of the rule as they only differ in a matter of hours from mine.
The specificity of the nba is that it matters when the first round is completed, which is why trades are usually announced from the dais in the second round during draft night.
The other team could absolutely have a part in selecting the 24 1st. No issue with sending that pick and the 2031 1st together. It’s not like the sign and trade complications where you can’t even negotiate with a player until weeks later. The teams are free to negotiate the picks before hand. They just can’t complete a trade involving the 2031 1st until after the draft (or after the first round is complete). Which doesn’t cause any issue with discussing the 2024 1st.
As I added above, 76ers picks package is fairly weak. They really need to unprotect 25 and 27 already owed.
Gaining 2031 is nice (most team also gain that 2031) but 76ers 2031 comes with a ton of what if chances of never conveying.
