There’s no chance

Mavs are closer to being out of the play in than they are to OKC and probably also Denver.

It’s a full season award. Even though posters are mostly goldfish, the voters aren’t.

The Mavericks are 6 games behind OKC and Denver.

Last year, Jokic finished 5 games behind Giannis in wins, Embiid 4 games. Both finished ahead of Giannis in MVP voting.

If a 5 game difference isn't a disqualifier, neither should a 6 game difference be.

Jokic has won 8 more games than Luka.

Close to being out of play-in? Resting last 2 games, because they're in playoffs. Actually they had guaranteed playoff 3 games before the end. You're trolling at this point. And insulting posters, like usual, good for you.If Jokic could get MVP being 6th in far worse West, than being 5 is for sure good enough. I agree with you though that they won't give to Luka, but not because Mavs standings are not good enough. I have to be careful what I say, because it didn't ended well last time, it's hard to fight polar bears, let's just say that it's difficult to find bigger Luka's hater here, I know only one bigger. ;)

Again not even comparable. Jokic didn’t have an allnba talent like Kyrie on his team. Jokic MVP competition was within 3 games of him. Also Jokic won more games playing than either of his competitors that year. Jokic this year has won 8 more games than Luka. Not even close so why you keeping bringing up that comparison

Why didn’t Luka play then?

Why reward a guy for sitting out because his team isn’t competing for a top spot?

Because they have already secured 5th seed and have nothing to play for anymore. It would be really stupid to get injured just before the series against the Clippers. I would just like to point out that the Mavs are 4-7 without Luka while both the Nuggest without Jokic and OKC without SGA have a winning record.

I just googled it and that's still a hard question. It appears to me there is no hard set deadline for it, sometimes it's in May sometimes it's in June and they're pretty secretive about how they vote for it too.

My main memory of it was when they gave Dirk the MVP after the 2007 series with the Warriors and he pretty much blew it off and called it a worthless award because he was still upset and if I remember right they awarded it during the second round that year

The guy had been playing with a bad hamstring and a sore achilles on a team that had won 16 of their last 18 and had nothing left to play for. Not taking the Pistons game off would have been just stupid. Seeing how they played against the Pistons without him tells you why they were playing him with a bad hamstring and sore achilles in the first place

OKC is 2-5 without SGA. OKC youngest team to win this many games, no other all stars, 2nd and 3rd best players are a rookie and 2nd year guy, etc…

Luka has been banged up the last week or so. He’s not just sitting out to sit out.

If you want to talk about numbers, Jokic is 1st in PER, Win Shares, BPM, and VORP.

Luka is 4th, 5th, 2nd and 2nd in those categories. Luka had a great season, might win it all, and could win MVP next year, but this year the MVP goes to Jokic.

The award is called "most valuable player" not "leader of advanced stats". Nobody ever had a +33ppg, +9.2 rpg, +9.8 apg season before. Ever. In the history of the NBA.

Luka leads in points and assists. Luka leads in actual production as opposed to would have, could have, should have stats.

Are we back.to Luka having poor team mates again?

Kyrie also.didnt play and only one Dallas starter played more than 15 minutes. Not sure you can draw any meaningful conclusions from that game.

The answer is yes. Oscar had a better season with 30.8 / 12.5 / 11.4

Advanced stats aren’t based off of what a play would have done, could have done, or should have done. It’s based on what they actually do.
