The All-NBA 3rd teams

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Tue Apr 16, 2024 12:47 am

1st: SGA, Luka, Tatum, Giannis, Jokic
2nd: Brunson, Ant, Kawhi, Durant, Davis

These guys are pretty much a lock for all-NBA team. Maybe they don't make these exact teams but they at least make one of the 3. For simplicity, who makes the 3rd All-NBA team?

I don't know why Banchero isn't an option but Zion, George and Brown are?

If Sabonis and Gobert don't make it to an all NBA team this season, you can cancel the accolade all together because honestly i don't know what they should have done in order to make it.
This ain't the circus all star game in which you can leave them out because they ain't popular enough.
Messi. Jordan. Ali. Bolt. Senna. Serena. Karelin. Phelps. Rossi. Suleymanoglou. The GOATs.

I would have Sabonis over Davis for the 2nd team.

This.

If Sabonis isn’t all NBA just get rid it.

Curry v Booker

26/5/5 on 45/41/92 (61% TS) - 10 seed.
27/5/7 on 49/36/89 (61% TS) - 6 seed.

How is Curry a lock but Booker isn't?

Honestly, I couldn't decide on Zion, Banchero or Fox for that last spot.

PG13 and Brown have a fair chance to make All-NBA I think.

I went Sabonis, LeBron, Gobert, Curry and Haliburton.

Someone from Indiana just has to make it imo and they want to propel Haliburton to stardom.
Sabonis because he just got snubbed for AS and he's likely the best player on the Kings.
Gobert, because they need to credit someone for making Minnesota a top team in the west.
LeBron because he probably actually does deserve to earn this honor and this would make him the first 20x All-NBA player
Curry probably because they want to give him #10.

Age has literally nothing to do with All NBA or Lebron would be 1st team with what he's doing at age 39.

Clear best player on your team is one thing but let's not pretend like this isn't 80% of the core that was one of the greatest teams of all time and still has Draymond, Klay and rising stars in Kuminga and Podz. Not like record is anything good either.

Haliburton 69 games 20/4/11 on 48/36/86 - 40-29 win/loss (.579) (61% TS) - 6 seed East
Booker 68 games 27/5/7 on - 49/36/89 - 43-25 win/loss (.632) (61% TS) 6 seed West
Curry 74 games 26/5/5 on 45/41/92 - 43-31 win/loss (.581) (61% TS)- 10 seed West

6 extra games for Curry for 6 extra losses.

Struggling to see a solid argument for any of these over the other to be honest..

Curry
Booker
Bron
Sabonis
Gobert

Should be the 5. Sabonis posted insane numbers, Gobert catapulted a top seed, Bron is good as always, Booker had a stellar Suns season and Curry looks golden at his age as well.

Do we also pretend the 80% are at their prime? PHX were expected to win a lot more. While KD played more games, Curry had to deal with Klay/Wiggins sucked for a while and Draymond missed 27 games (13w-14l during).

Is it a solid argument? Maybe not, just want to provide some possible perspective since you asked.

I'd go:

1st team: Brunson, SGA, Luka, Giannis, Jokic
2nd team: LeBron, Tatum, KD, Kawhi, AD
3rd team: Haliburton, Curry, Edwards, George, Sabonis

I feel like George would get more votes in the poll if you put him as George instead of PG-13. Scrolling through the options, I had a hard time finding him.

Paul George: +5.7 EPM, 14.5 EW, 3.2 BPM, 3.3 VORP, +8.9 NetRtg, +14.3 on/off
Paolo Banchero: +0.4 EPM, 6.2 EW, 1.3 BPM, 2.3 VORP, -0.3 NetRtg, -7.3 on/off

I know Banchero will get votes because he's the leading scorer on a team that did better than expectations, but he doesn't have a remotely serious case over George. Paolo has the worst on/off on the team of any of the 13 players who have played 500+ minutes and he ranks 160th out of 193 qualifying players in true shooting.

So, he's the lead option on the 22nd ranked offense in the league. Uh, hooray? Derozan's scored more PPG as the lead option on a better offense. Wembanyama has a higher OBPM while also being one of the best defensive players in the league. The Jazz have been better with Lauri Markkanen on the floor than the Magic have with Paolo even though the Jazz without Markkanen are 16.9 points worse per 100 possessions than the Magic without Paolo. Banchero wouldn't even make my 10th team.

It's funny because they have opposite cases. Sabonis has great box score numbers, but he has a negative on/off and the Kings are barely positive with him on the floor. Gobert has the best NetRtg on the 4th best regular season team in the league, but he's only 53rd in the league by BPM. Neither player is top 40 in the league in EPM. I honestly can't imagine what kind of criteria puts both of them on all-NBA.

I like how you say 6 seed and 10 seed like there's a big difference between them when actually it's only 3 wins. How about this:

Curry: 74 games played, 5.2 BPM, +5.1 EPM
Booker: 68 games played, 3.0 BPM, +4.7 EPM

I don't know if I'd say that Curry's a lock, but he definitely has a better case than Booker.

If we're positionless, LBJ should be 2nd team.

Zion ain gettin no love,n sabonis has not been better this season
Honestly nobody has made they teammate’s better, if there was anything as gravity, he should lead the league, other than McCollum he playing with bench players,
Pay your beals....or its lights out!!!
Bron, Bosh, Wade is like Mike, Hakeem, barkley...3 top 5 picks from same draft
mike, hakeem and Barkley on the same team!!!!

Does Banchero not at least deserve to be in the discussion? He's doing things rarely seen by 21 year olds.
