His numbers point out that he is a decent to a good defender, despite your love for Varsho. Gurriel led all National League Left Fielders in 2023 with 14 Defensive Runs Saved, and his overall defensive rating on Fangraphs was Number 1 in MLB for Left Fielders in 2023. Gurriel gets unfairly lumped with Teoscar in people's memories, since Teoscar was terrible defensively. Gurriel is not on Varsho's level, but his defensive numbers from last year point out that he was actually above average defender. I go by the data and numbers, and not people's subjective bias and "eyes" because they like below average hitting defensive specialists like Varsho.

Last season was his only good year defensively. Did he suddenly figure things out at age 30? His numbers for the Jays lineup with the eye test.
