Tyler Smith
Let’s discuss.
Draft range? Team’s he fits?
Defense? Can he defend in space against wings? Will he be targeted? How is his weak-side rim protection?
Offense, is his 3 ball going to be legit?
Who is better as a 4/5, him or Holmes?

Terrence Jones 2.0
Stretch pf who can maybe play small ball 5 with a decent 3pt shot.

Re: Tyler Smith
He should/will definitely be drafted over Holmes.
Just going by the stats, seems to be a good shooter who's an underrated source of stocks.
Hard to judge Ignite players but I'm impressed by the stat line.

Re: Tyler Smith
He should go top 5 imo.. Tyler's game needs polish but once he learns NBA skills and has NBA training, he looks like a starting PF for anyteam in the league. Good form on his J, can leap, seems to have good hands and will probably measure in the 6'11 in shoes range imo. Reminds me of Kuzma with slightly better defensive potential

Seems to profile almost identically to Jabari Smith to me.

I read he could have rim protection ability and I read that he plays no defense at all. Who is the guy on defense in the NBA?

He said he models his game after Jabari Smith, Kyle Kuzma, Michael Porter Jr. So yeah...jump shots and no defense at all.

3 plays against the Windy City Bulls.
First play: His job is to hedge, contain the drive, and get back. Smith gets blown by.
Second play: In transition, provides zero resistance defending the drive. The guy runs right past Smith.
Third play: Hits jumpshot then leaves his man open a few seconds later because he's confused about the rotations.

brutal in space but solid down low. Needs a lot of work on that end imo but that seems to be the case with all of these stretch 4s coming into the league. Hell, half of them are still bad years into their NBA careers. If he was a good defender he would be in the lottery discussion but he's not

absolutely awful defender, but he's starting from 0 so there may be something there for the right coach.. his motor is pretty high

Re: Tyler Smith
he's probably not going to struggle defensively given he'll be defending the easiest position in the NBA to defend, the 4. He's too physically gifted and athletic to worry about defense long-term tbh. If you loved Jabari Smith you should love Smith and he should be in the mix at the top of the draft

Lottery-level talent who doesn't always play hard. He can do a bit more with the ball than he normally did at GLI. Would look great in Detroit, Miami or Wilwaukee.

Re: Tyler Smith
If the defense stays as bad as it is I think his worst case is something like pre-Sacramento Trey Lyles, which is a serviceable shooter off the bench. But I think there is more to his game and that he has the physical tools to be a better defender than Lyles.

He's actually fairly comparable to young Rashard Lewis in Seattle if any of you remember who that is. In today's NBA, he's clearly a 4.

Isn't Jabari a far better defender than Tyler Smith? On the surface, its fine as both are 4s that space the floor. I've only seen highlights of Smith, but it seems to be one of his major flaws atm.

Multiple red flags on this prospect.

well, he played in college while Smith was playing against grown men in the G-League and his defense was always a bit overrated imo. I think he holds his own but he's not anything special. He has some stiffness and lacks great athleticism but he makes up for it with intensity and effort for the most part. Smith has more physical gifts and is better down low but struggles on the perimeter but how much is due to competition and what a travesty that Ignite team was?
