Good. That's what he really wants to do. Gambling seems to be his thing, basketball was something that he does because only a fool would do this.

He probably made more money gambling than his NBA contract anyway.

PTI normally has an espn bet segment…it would be awkward for them to air this. Kornheiser and Wilbon are complicit imo

PTI never has an espn bet segment. Don't know what you are talking about there.

But I hadn't finished today's show yet and they literally threw it in the big finish segment where they fly through the end topics in the last minute lol

This is what the NBA signed up for now with doing all these gambling ads

If it were LeBron they'd have done the same as Jordan, 1 season max.

When did Jordan ever place a huge bet that he wouldn't score a certain amount of points and fake an injury in the first quarter? Because when Porter tried that a second time that's what got him caught (and deservedly shamed)

As relevant as Lebron in this situation. Jordan also never bet on himself to underperform. What the actual **** is your point?

My apologies if I wasn't clear, "character defect" is a term used in recovery programs so people have a way of addressing an addiction. I speak as someone with an addiction to something else, as the brain chemistry is essentially the same for all types of addictions. It's not meant to ascribe some kind of morality to it, because addiction is amoral. It's not entertainment for everyone. I doubt Mr. Porter found gambling that entertaining.

Good luck on your continued great outcomes.

Does anyone know how exactly they found out Jontay was doing this?

I believe a third party regulator contacted the NBA after a 80k bid involving Jontay became a 1.1 million dollar payout.

They have personal information and contact information of the betters and someone or Jontay probably told the truth to the investigators.

I don't think I'll ever understand the underlying "logic" informing the "Jordan's first retirement was a year and a half long suspension actually" conspiracy theory.

I don't think DraftKings ever had any intention of paying the bet out because normally you would never take on a bet of that size for that type of bet. They probably figured they were freerolling regardless of what happened.

But how could you ever watch him airball a three, make a crucial turnover in crunch time, or "have an injury in the first quarter" without wondering? This guy seems to have signs of addiction anyway, with crypto and day trading and this. Takes way more than a year to recover from a fundamental character defect of that magnitude.

I received a meager $91K inheritance when my old man passed away from COVID in early 2020, yet my "addiction" has turned it into a significantly larger chunk. 8-)

I try to just ignore everything betting related but is just bacially impossible now a days.

Every sports show is slowly turning into a betting channel.

Look, everyone knows that's bad, but what you do in your private life should not affect your professional life unless it can directly affect what you do professionally. If you're running a women's shelter and you're beating your wife you should get a lifetime ban. If you're betting on your own team to lose you should get the same. Otherwise we should leave it to the courts and not our bosses to decide what's wrong.

I'm not sure what industry you work in but if I was criminally charged with domestic assault (or any other crime for that matter), id be looking for a new job. And most jobs are the same way.

It shouldn't be that way, and we certainly shouldn't have posters celebrating or advocating for that.

We shouldn't? Why? Because you think the Patriots shouldn't have cut Aaron Hernandez until he was convicted of a crime?

Prior to legalizing of wagering in many states, I wonder if the NBA would’ve even listened to a sportsbook about unusual activity. I would bet anything that several lower level players have gotten away with this before. Maybe there have been suspicions and those players have been silently blackballed. The public will never know.
Mid-level to star players are getting paid too much to make this a worthwhile risk. I know some have money problems later on, but not usually while they’re still playing. Not saying it’s impossible though.
