This is a Spolestra move. Put a smaller, quicker defender on the ball-handler to make dribble-penetration difficult (such as a SG/PG on Doncic). Then, cover the screener with the primary player that would normally cover Doncic 1 on 1. Once the screen is set, the primary defender just switches onto Doncic.

This essentially makes the P-n-R non-beneficial. Instead, the better move is to go 1-on-1 or start someone like Doncic off-the-ball. However, that is not how Dallas plays. It will be interesting to see if they can adjust.

This is a big reason why Tatum struggled so badly against Miami last year.
