Did they have a need to upgrade the starting SF position before and after the trade? Yes. Did Cleveland also, and more importantly, have a glaring need for a second creator so that teams could not just clamp down on Garland in the Playoffs? Yes. Did the Mitchell trade address that need? Yes.
Heck, Rubio's 3 year deal was supposed to address that.
The hole at SF is still greater to this day than the need for a second playmaker. Especially when Sexton, Rubio, and LeVert were already on the team.
Regardless of what happens in this series, the trade was dumb and advanced the Cavs timeline forward, unnecessarily. Can we beat the Celtics in a 7 game series? Well, i guess we might find out. If we do that, can we beat say the Bucks in a 7 game series?
If Mitchell doesn't extend the entire thing is moot.
Mitchell has been our best player since he got here and a bonafide superstar.
Garland has developed and kept his end of the bargain.
Levert has been a 6th man candidate.
Allen has developed.
The only part of this plan that has been a let down is Mobley. For this unconventional team build to work, we need more consistent offense from Mobley and more consistent elite defense.
He could get there next year and we are due for some injury luck. Long story short, it's not nearly as bleak as you make it out to be and we will have the option to trade Mobley this off season if we want to shake things up

Yeah, looked hyperextended, hope he's okay.Michael Jackson wrote:azcatz11 wrote:Banged knees - he's fine
looked extended... should be fine

Agree with all of this except LeVert. The variance on that dude is Cediesque.
