Re: 2023-2024 College Basketball / NBA Draft
Honestly, I'm the opposite of the general sentiment on this board. Unless it's taking a stab at a pure statistical maestro like Mark Sears, I'm out on most junior/seniors in the first. I don't see a marked difference between the guys projected in the first round and the second round.
This draft is such trash that I'd rather take a swing at a freshman/soph who has some of the numbers I'd like to see from prospects and hope they'd grow into that role in the NBA. Carrington, Kel'el Ware, Klintman (although he's pushing it), Ulrich Chomche. Honestly, the agility and tools that Chomche has shown at the age of 18 is worth taking a chance on in the off-chance he becomes Giannis.

Deep sleeper I'd take in the second if we catch wind of someone trying to draft him, otherwise pick up undrafted:
Norchad Omier
If he has a consistent 3 (shot 75% FT, 35% 3FG) he'd be an excellent PF on this team. Particularly because he's one of the best rebounders in this draft. 2.8 STL%, 3.0 BLK%. Won't need to have the ball in his hands to be effective. Basically the opposite of our starting PF, Norvirgin (Tobias Harris).

Officially declared for the draft yesterday. Numbers are pretty insane. The eye test is lacking a bit, but I'll have to watch more.

Never mind.

What's your take on Justin Edwards then? 6'8 ~200lbs genuine wing with a decent looking stroke. Was a top 3 recruit coming out of HS. Why hasn't he popped off more and is he worth the swing?

I honestly can't give a fair assessment of him. He was relegated to a C&S PF by the end of the year. He had a couple big games but was otherwise underwhelming. Probably needs to go back to college so he can be an actual creator rather than a pure role player. It's the downside of being a freshman for Calipari. You have to sacrifice, but if things aren't going well, then you're going to the draft purely on HS reputation which isn't great.
I was rarely impressed, but he does have some tools that are alluring.

I’m becoming more entrenched with Klintman being out pick. Not because I love him as a prospect, but because he has the tools to be a solid starting PF for us. Gets to the line and also shoots from outside. Solid steal numbers. Good FT%. Look forward to his height/wingspan at the combine.

Maybe draft Devin Carter since he’s a player who clearly isn’t a complete coward and tries to rebound the ball.

How about Tristan Newton in the 2nd round? Can he be a long term backcourt partner for Maxey?

Edit: NVM
If we keep our pick, I feel like Shannon Jr. or McCullar would all be solid choices. Shannon Jr. seems like the most obvious choice.
I like Tyler Smith a lot too, but he's younger and might take too much time to contribute.

2024-2025 Philadelphia 76ers:
Maxey/Lowry/Jackson
Martin/Gordon/McCain
Oubre/Council/Martin
George/Yabusele
Embiid/Drummond/Bona

Is Da Silva any good? The scouting reports make him seem like a fit as a Batum replacement. Game highlights are underwhelming. Looks really unathletic

Also, Morey is going to draft Bronny at 41.

Devin Carter would fill a lot of needs. He's a great defender, can score/shoot a bit, and like you said, he rebounds with tenacity for a G.

I would take either of those players. McCullar is less flashy, but he's pretty well rounded.

I think he's really solid. Although I do think he is a better cog in a 5 man unit than he is as an individual player. Da Silva is legit, though, IMO. He's going to make his team better.

Dillon Jones seems to have some elite traits.
His rebounding, playmaking, and scoring are fantastic.
Might be a little too brolic, though. He has a football body.
I think he would be my selection right now.

The one video I watched, he clearly has some BB IQ and court vision, and he's elite going to the rack, but I didn't see him take any perimeter shots. He's a monster, physically, and can probably defend 1-4 with his size, and has the all important dawg in him, which we can use. The question is can he knock down 3's with any consistency?

Lack of natural range, for sure.
Tankathon projects him to shoot 35.7% from three. His free throw shooting at 85.7% is pretty promising.

Seeing Da Silva's weak rebounding numbers makes me out on him. Maybe trauma from this Knicks series but I want guys who crash the damn glass.

That FT% is huge. If his form looks fine he should become a decent to good 3PT shooter.
Tankathon has him early 2nd, would be awesome to get him with our 2nd pick and a slight trade up.
Anyone have any C&S or other shooting metrics on him?
