What a massive upset. Haney got embarrassed getting dropped 3 times (5 times really) and kept getting hit with that left hook. Haney's stock has completely been shot.

Lol
It's wild the swings that have occurred in the 3some of Garcia, Haney, and Shakur over the past year. Who would thought that Ryan would be atop them all right now?
Lol, I don't know if Haney comes back from this, at least not as a p4p great. Dude is a rhythm fighter, but once that rhythm is broken, he's totally at a loss. Reestablished the jab is virtually impossible. It's hard to imagine he can return to the upper echelon after this. Brawlers and punchers will always be threats, and doubts are going to now be quick to creep into his psyche.
Sorta terrible to think that Haney and Shakur might have had their wings clipped this early into their careers.

I always thought Haney's greatest gift was his ability to shrink down for weigh ins. At 135 he always came in looking at least 2 divisions heavier than his opponent. Garcia's antics gave Haney and his dad the facade of an easy payday but what they should've done is call off the fight when Garcia came in 3 lbs over. Haney's punches had no sting at all against someone bigger than him.
Woah, you think the money/pound and the antics were each strategies to keep Haney overconfident... and willing to not call off the fight?
Maybe. I hadn't considered that. It's devious.

Devin Haney just comes off as a straight minded kid. I still remember when Haney fought Kamboses in Australia the first time, his dad had trouble getting to Australia due to visa problems during the last week before the fight. Devin was considering calling off the fight if his dad can't make it. I'm not calling him stupid but I think Devin isn't the deepest thinker outside of the ring. Garcia grew up in the amateurs with Devin when they were just kids and just knew how to push his buttons, kind of like a big brother small brother thing. I think this entire thing was for that weight advantage. Being bigger in the ring and not being drained to make the weight.

The production in this Fury Usyk match is insane, really amazing.

What a fight man. The right man won in the end. The rematch can go either way.

Usyk is too good & I don’t know what Fury can do to change the result
We wouldn’t be having this conversation if ref had stopped fight here with Fury defenceless
Instead he gave him an 8 count & he was saved by the bell

But still few moments that changed the fight. Usyk broke Fury's nose in the 8th and had him badly hurt in the 9th. The fight could've been stopped at that moment.
But Fury looked in a different league in the rounds before. Hurting Usyk several times in the 6th round. Fury had 3-7 locked in, and looked to cruise away, before Usyk landed the big left in the 8th that broke Furys nose and changed the momentum again.
It's not like Usyk was in a different league, though he won the fight. These two are close to even - mainly due to the huge size difference.

Re: Boxing Thread 5
I’m glad Usyk beat Fury. Fury is such a loser blaming sentiment on the war as to why Usyk won. Like dude, win with some class and stop showboating in the ring. You are not Ali or anywhere close to him.
Fury took this more seriously than the Ngannou fight. But it wasn’t enough. Of course there’s always that 1 suspect judge that gives their card to the other fighter.
If they run it back, I think Usyk wins another decision again.

Re: Boxing Thread 5
I'm no expert but... I think despite Fury's size, he is better and more comfortable fighting on the inside or middle. But that is suicide against Usyk, so he was forced to try and do damage from the outside.
That should have been a stoppage.
I'm starting to think Fury is overrated. He beat Wlad but retired and didn't honor the rematch. And he spanked Wilder 3 times. But I never seen a champion get knocked down so many times.

Yeah, I don't see an angle where Fury wins again.
Beginning rounds was Usyk being the aggressor and winning the points. Middle rounds were looking to be Fury's when he decided to be more aggressive. Later rounds was all Usyk and his conditioning.
If there's a rematch, and Fury decides to come out aggressive to win the early rounds; I think that just leaves him more skeptical to counters and getting tired in the later rounds where Usyk can just replicate another Round 9.

Re: Boxing Thread 5
If Fury wants to win, he needs to keep going to Usyk’s body. Usyk is susceptible to body shots. He had his best moments in the fight when he threw those hooks to the body. Also, he needs to cut it out with then showboating. Show more respect to your opponent, and perhaps you won’t get your bell rung like that again. Dude was so delusional blaming sentiment for the Ukraine war as to why he didn’t get the decision. He’s lucky the ref didn’t call a stoppage.
