1. We cannot do a sign and trade. Hard cap would follow and we are way over it
2. Signing Kyle and Monte is possible because of bird rights. We have no mid level and could only offer anyone else the minimum.
3. Signing Kyle and trading him at the deadline is how you get a trade done. But any trade exemption created does not carry over into next year.
So basically, our best course of action maybe sign both of those guys. See if we could trade this year's 1st for a next year first. Then mid season package the pick (incentive)+KA + Morris (maybe) for a player.
Yes, if money was no object. Remember, the incremental cost of signing either would be much more than the players salary, simply from lux taxes
$0-5 million above tax line: $1.50 per dollar (up to $7.5 million)
$5-10 million above tax line: $1.75 per dollar (up to $8.75 million)
$10-15 million above tax line: $2.50 per dollar (up to $12.5 million)
$15-20 million above tax line: $3.25 per dollar (up to $16.25 million).
For every additional $5 million above tax line beyond $20 million, fees increase by $0.50 per dollar.
Let’s say we are $10 mil over the lux, and want to sign Kyle for a $10 mil. That costs the owner $10 + $12.5 lux + $16.25 lux = $39 mil and he has to ask himself .. “Is Kyle worth $39 mil to me, or can we get by without him?”
