I don't think it's going to work out that way, but that would be beneficial for the Magic obviously.

Every single dollar they potentially save on Franz and Suggs' extensions is another dollar they can potentially spend elsewhere.

I not only don't think it will work out that way but I don't even understand the logic. Feels like a very lazy analysis.

Some of the media are prisoners of the moment. Last week, after Franz scored 34, I heard someone say he could potentially be a top 20 player. Now they're saying maybe a 4th option.

I guess when you have to process so many teams you resort to shallow heuristics that lead to bad takes

I dont think the Murray/Paolo beef is really anything now, but we are such a tight group and hes got such weird, douchey vibes. Im worried about him being a bad apple and ruining our good vibes.

I want both Franz and Suggs extended, hopefully their poor play helps us save some money.

He's exactly what I said to give Suggs and Franz. Suggs at $19-20m and Franz at $25-26m. Franz shooting only 28% on jumpers this season cost him a max deal.

He says Franz is worth ~25 mil per and Suggs is a ~18-20 mil player. He's 100% right on both.

And-1

This is all way overblown. These sorts of players are hyper-competitive on EVERYTHING. Trash talk is part of rec-league ball. It's all fine.

Look at these extensions and try justifying Franz at $25M. No offense, but the opinion isn't rooted in reality.

I feel this. He seems like an ****, but he also seems like he works hard and wants to win. Maybe it can work on the Magic with Mosley, the group spirit and some outspoken vets. This is my biggest issue with Murray and why I would not give up Black for him. I would do like three picks because I think thats worth the risk. If it doesnt work out, you trade his ass for a 1st round pick or two. If it does work out you have a legit very good starter.

To your point, Jordan Pool's first year was 27.5. Vassell is 27. Jaden McDaniels is at 26....

The guys who are making way above that made all-star games prior to signing their extension other than Bane (who would have been if he played in the east). Franz wasn't even in the conversation this year.

Franz has led this team in win-shares for the past two seasons and anchored a top 5 defense while being a clear second option on a below average offense. He's a proven winner with his finger tips all over this team's OVERACHIEVING +12 and +13 regular season win improvements.

His agent is going to get the bag because he's the best player in his draft and without him we'd be in the lottery again.

If we can extend both Franz and Suggs for both those pricetags....Weltman deserves a statue of him built ASAP. The guys keep saying in the interviews how much they love and enjoy playing with each other. Lets see if this holds come negotiations.

If Franz is looking for a $45 mil contract, I'd be looking to ship him out this summer. Ain't no way you can give him that. If he is that good, we should be able to trade him for a legit all-star right?

Franz was trained from childhood to be a team player not 1on1 scorer. He struggled to score vs Cavs best defender but maybe thats the impulse to focus on that in the offseason. 1vs1 with JI every day. Even without that he is very valueable, much more than his raw numbers. He is worth more than 25M but if we can get him for that thats a huge win. I would not lowball him though to keep his confidence high.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

Like Marks said, only 3 non allstars are getting the max. Franz could potentially make one in the future, but he's going to have to improve his shooting. Are you suggesting we pay him the max?

what we're doing is discussing a 22 year old who was the worst qualifying 3pt shooter of the year... that's what we're doing. We wouldn't be having this discussion if the kid shot well... but he didn't.

Franz is not a max player today around the NBA. The future is Paolo/Franz but lets not get carried away. Franz is not a max player until his shooting improves which I expect it to. He is absolutely instrumental to our success and we need to lock him up long term but max? Him and his camp know he isn't there......yet.

Return to Orlando Magic
