I don't think this is true. The Jazz once had a player flown in, and police escorted to the arena by the second quarter of a playoff game.

I think he can show up anytime to play if he chooses.

I think you misunderstood. The league doesn’t want coaches trying to psyche each other out by using the questionable status. For instance, if Finch knew Rudy was out (as in he left the state/country,) and he made it questionable, then that messes with fans and betting as much as it messes with Denver. Also, when the 76ers and Knicks knew that their guys were returning, they should have used the probable designation instead of questionable. To be clear I am guessing in my statement, I have no specific knowledge.

If you fly out, you are allowed to fly back.

True, but where is Rudy’s “partner.” If she is in France, then how is Rudy going to get back in time. My point was if Finch was 100% Rudy was not going to play he would list him as out. If he was 75% sure Rudy wouldn’t play he would be listed as doubtful. Questionable is supposed to be used for 50/50.

Call me old school or a heartless bastard, but I don't think you should miss a playoff game for the birth of a child. Regular season and playoffs are very different.

I'm going to pull some numbers out of my a$$ here, but didn't the Lakers list LeBron questionable for more than half of this years games? He played approximately 90% of the time he was questionable. Brow wasn't far behind. Shouldn't they be fined/punished for that?

My quick research says she's based out of Minnesota

Good to know. Hope everyone is happy healthy.

Responding to people above. Questionable is used if you don’t know. Probable is used when you think it is more likely than not. In this case, questionable makes perfect sense. Get that man a private jet and thank god for the late start.

I mean, at the end of the day, basketball is just a job. Doesn't matter if it's playoffs or the amount of money someone makes. Birth of your child is always gonna be more important.

He should be inspired to play his best game ever in honor of his child's birth.

I'm a heartless old bastard. Your child and partner should be just fine without you for a day.

Unfortunately, it's not just missing "a" day. You have a finite number of "special" days in your life. The birth of your first child is most certainly one of those days.

I speak from experience that is true and I was there for the event. So should you miss the playoff game for the birth of your first child, but not any of the later ones? Should he ask for a weeks paternity leave? Where do you draw the line.

I just noticed I'm closing in on 20K posts. I sure hope we are in the playoffs long enough for me to get there before they end.

Especially your first child. It’s not like Rudy is an old hat at this. 100% agree with you.

If Rudy does miss today's game can his teammates "win just one for the Go Bear?" If he does play can he focus on the game well enough to be at his usual self or better?

Why wouldn’t he be able to focus. The child is born, he is flying home tonight or tomorrow anyway. Being apart from his kid from his kid isn’t a super new experience for him yet. If anything a happy and healthy birth is a huge weight off his mind.
