Nuggets last season also played a depleted Wolves team, a Suns team that got thrown together at the deadline and a Lakers team that capitalised on a weaker West.

West is built different this season.

2023 was definitely the weakest the West has been in the 21st century

Yeah I’m not throwing shade or anything but throughout history there’s plenty of teams that don’t repeat and it’s because things fell right for them in that season they did won and there’s a big target on their back the next season.

To win back to back chips you have to be incredibly good. The Duncan Spurs couldn’t even manage it.

A fair bit of luck is required for any NBA champion.

Denver were by a considerable margin the best team in the NBA last season, and their title shouldn't be diminished cause the Western Confrerence is tougher, better and more athletic than last season

They seized their moment with both arms and fully deserve their ring.

Said before, it's almost impossible in today's NBA to go back to back due to parity and the obscene amount of talent in today's NBA.

It's a bit disappointing to read the lack of respect for Denver's championship last season (not that I am necessarily accusing you of it)

Denver’s starting back court:

12 points on 24 shots. 2 assists, 5 turnovers. Very little defense.

Did Malone make any adjustments after game 1? Will he after this game?

Fam they got blown out without the DPOTY. This series is over.

Yeah.. Can't really argue this one. Minny isn't losing 4 of the next 6, especially after what we just saw. This team is too good to blow this series.

And there was all this talk of Nuggets having this homecourt advantage that no other team had because of the altitude.

Wow KAT with 27 on 10-15 shooting with 12 boards. Add in the defensive performance and that was a great game from KAT.
From a fundamental standpoint it is better for a man to have nothing but be under the protection of Jesus Christ than for him to have everything he could ever want yet be completely without.

This was a straight up arse whooping.

They also have Leonard Miller (GLI alum) who is an even better defender than that. Scary 4/5 hybrid with incredible athleticism and length.

Denver...I respect the hell out of your fan base but y'all can't let MVP chants for an opposing player happen in your house during the play offs

That's nasty work

Typically when you're down by 22 to start the 4th you try to score more than 20 points in the quarter.

The most concerning thing from this was the lack of leadership. Jokic isnt a leader. Malone broke. Murray was broken. It was a horrible look and they need to do some soul searching.

I mean all you have to do is look at his series stats Vs La last year compared to this year. Night and day against the exact same La roster.
it isn't the same roster

People don't appreciate how big looking Bruce Brown and Jeff Green is, especially with Deandre Jordan and Reggie Jackson getting a year older. Denver has zero depth, it is a serious problem.

Part of it is by design. The cap just squeezes good teams and brings them back down the earth. Denver has $135m tied up in Jokic, Murray, MPJ and Gordon. Once you put a team together, you have a small window where your team is developed and talented enough to win, but also not so top heavy with contracts that you can't fill out your starting lineup and bench.

Minnesota is a year or two behind Denver with the same problem. Let's say they win the chip this year, they've got so much money tied up in their top 4 that it'll be difficult to keep key pieces like Reid and NAW. Even Gobert will be hard to retain beyond next season unless he takes a huge paycut.

I'd argue it might be harder to stay a champion than to become a champion.
