You aren't really exposed when you lead your team to the championship a year before

Last year was the weakest finals win since 99 spurs. Cakewalk to finals only decent team they played was Suns who had just gutted their roster to get KD. Played 8 seed Miami in finals. History will view this title as low value and he won’t win another.

Preach.

I'd love for there to be analysis of championships based on regular season/post season strength of opponent. Jokic's chip would pale in comparision, and wouldn't even be top 10.

Nah.

Kareem won his 4th MVP in a year he missed the playoffs.

Many people don't know that, but they know he won a 4th MVP.

Shai or Luka should have gotten it, and if Embiid was healthy it would have been his unanimously.

This was more of a most healthy award than anything else.

But Embiid wasn’t healthy. And this isn’t some one-off thing—he’s rarely healthy throughout the regular season (not to mention virtually never healthy in the playoffs). The annals of sports are filled with guys who were great but couldn’t stay healthy, and those guys rightfully don’t win awards or go down as the greatest players.

Would be interesting to put together a top 10 in history of what could have been in history. Not college players like Sam Bowie, or Greg Oden. Players, who flashed a lot of impressive things prior to their demise.

Yeah, there’s a lot of those sorts of guys. Bill Walton, Grant Hill, and Penny Hardaway are a few great examples in the NBA. I’m not convinced that Embiid will ultimately truly end up in that category. He’s arguably in that sort of category right now—though I think he’s been healthy more than those three guys I mentioned. But he’s got time left. The Sixers will potentially have the ability to improve their roster this offseason, with so many contracts expiring (though they’ll have to throw a lot more money at Maxey), and Maxey will be improving. Embiid isn’t going to be a great player for much longer, given his health and the lesser longevity of big men in general, but there’s still a window here for him to have major team success if he happens to be healthy for the playoffs in coming years.

Easier to say after you've won. This whole shctick about him not caring about the MVP is so lame. If that's the case he doesn't care about the chip either, given how much he loves his horses and couldn't wait to get out of there.

big reason Bill Walton only won 1 MVP
