In todays NBA Peja is a PF, Love is a Center
So no, 2 of your starting 5 playing out of position is not a good recipe for a winning team.

I hate this overused joke so much, not to mention it says in the OP that they’re all in their prime.

Re: Can this starting 5 contend for a chip
Yes. Absolutely.
If you are getting all of these guys in their primes, you are getting:
John Wall - All-NBA 2nd Team, 7th in MVP voting
Andre Iguadola - All-Defense 1st team, 5th in DPOY voting
Peja Stojakovic - All-NBA 2nd Team, 4th in MVP voting
Kevin Love - All-NBA 2nd Team, 6th in MVP voting
Marc Gasol - All-NBA 1st Team and DPOY
How are you going to lose with 4 guys who are considered among the top 8 players in the league plus Iguadola who was considered one of the elite role players?
Offensively, they'd be great running inverted sets with Wall and Iggy slashing and all the bigs spacing. Defensively, the guard defense and Gasol's brilliance in the paint help offset Peja and Love. And you know Love will control the defensive glass.
The lineup might have had a bit more trouble defensively 4 or 5 years ago, but the league is slowing down and having two sturdy bigs is becoming normal again. I think Love's prototype at PF is becoming viable again. He's a much better version of Naz Reid.

Depends on health and what the bench looks like, but yeah that team is winning no less than 60 games. Prime Peja was a beast, and putting him in today's NBA would be pretty unstoppable. Add onto that a DPOY C, a FMVP, and one of the most creative PGs ive ever seen and its a cakewalk to a championship

Re: Can this starting 5 contend for a chip
Given the parity in the league, of course they could. All of these players in their prime.
The issue would be generating good lucks, in the half court, late in the game. But the talent depth might help buffer that.

While they are good, I dont think any of these guys would be top 8 players in the league currently. League is too talented at the top. We have :
Jokic, Embiid, Luka, SGA, Tatum, Ant, Brunson, Mitchell, Butler, Booker.
Who do you think is best player from those 5? I honestly think it has to be Marc Gasol.

Yes of course. Several of those guys have proven the ability to adapt their role for a championship (Love, Iggy, Gasol). With the the exception of Peja, these guys were all great players within the last 5-7 years. Peja’s game would theoretically be a great fit in this era as well. This team has great defense, shooting size. They would dominate the league for years imo.

They could. I bet Peja could put up some amazing stats 3 pt wise. Id say 50-53 wins.

Yes, in their primes they were all legitimately great at a specific NBA caliber skill.
- Peja in particular would thrive in this modern NBA as a shooter.
- John Wall running the fast break was a monster in his early 20s.
- Iggy and Gasol were defensive monsters in their heydays.
It's a flawed roster, especially with two starting guards who aren't great shooters.
Feels like a 48+ win team that might win a playoff series depending on matchups.

That's fair. Let's say they're top 20 guys in today's game. Four top 20 guys and an elite defensive role player still wins you a title.

It does look Bostony to me. This is definitely a title contender, but very top guys are so good right now, it can be just a matter of team maybe not being able to stop ANT or Jokic. But the team has prime Iguoadala and Prime Marc, not sure if that was OPs intention, but this lineup would have perfect counters to possible two biggest one man armies of current time (Jokic hasn't been that guy so far, but I give him some in advance, because we already know who he is...).

Yeah they're all guys that relied on stuff that works in the NBA *right now*. I mean, they didn't dominate in an antiquated way.
Maybe lacking secondary facilitation and great backcourt shooting, but otherwise its 5 top 40 guys that have complimentary skillsets on offense and defense. I think they'd be expected to win.

Pretty big mix of shooting (Peja, Love, Gasol), rim pressure (Wall), defense (Iggy, Gasol, Wall) that I think gets it done in the playoffs and is just hard to solve. The IQ is really high too (Iggy and Gasol) so this strikes me as the kind of team that can problem solves in the playoffs and just has all the tools to beat opponents weaknesses with. John Wall would really pop flanked by this kind of shooting and Marc Gasol screens. Prime Iggy is a solid secondary source of rim pressure and this roster gives him enough space to attack.
