Interestingly, the roles were reversed in that 2013 series. The Knicks were the offensive-minded team and the Pacers were the defensive stalwarts. Unsurprisingly, the team that has the reputation of being more defensive-minded gets called for fewer fouls. It's been proven true in both of the last two series.
Yup and also the numbers in this series and 2013 are completely consistent with the RS FTAr for both teams. I'm totally open to someone saying the calls have marginally favored NY in this series. In a sample size of 2 games, it would be surprising if 1 didn't have an edge in marginal calls.
But the tinfoil hat crowd is absurd. And the history of NY-Indy PS series proves it. The NBA isn't fixing games. And if you believe they are, why watch?
I agree. There are definitely some fans (interestingly, none of them are actually Pacer fans) that have laid out some conspiracy theories with no merit. The NBA isn't trying to rig anything for the Knicks.
Yes, the refs did make critical mistakes at the end of game 1 that influenced the outcome of that particular game but that doesn't mean that the game was rigged for the Knicks or that the NBA is secretly pulling the strings to help the Knicks advance. That's just bollocks. The refs are simply human and they got influenced by the amazing atmosphere in MSG. That's what home-cooking is. It's the human tendency to get swept up in the momentum of a game, especially when that is backed up by a huge-ass crowd that's screaming their lungs out. It's why teams fight for homecourt.
