Why is Kenny Atkinson not getting a 2nd chance to coach again?

Post#1 » by DLoMor » Thu May 9, 2024 11:32 pm

Why are teams passing up on him. He was doing a great job on the Nets and I always felt like he was unfairly fired. I feel like he would have been great on the Hornets but they went in another direction. Do you guys think that he will finally get another chance soon? If so with what team. What do you guys think?

maybe he's happy being an assistant in Golden State

he might want to just stick around and take over whenever Kerr hangs it up. Kerr pretty much said he's going to stop coaching when Curry retires.

He got the Hornets job a couple years back and turned it down. Maybe he’s happier being an assistant?

Not good for your career when you accept a job and then renege after the fact.

I believe he's the one turning teams down. He seems to be happy with the Warriors at the moment.

He did? Why do I not remember this? Cause I always felt like for many years that he would be a great fit on that team.

I'll never forget it. Was a complete embarrassment to the Hornets and their fans. As if we need anymore of that.

I thought at the time he might have had a promise from the Warriors but the Kerr extension sinks that theory.

It's hard to identify what his imprint is on the Warriors though. I'd be fine if he moved on.

Idk but I’d love him in Chicago instead of Billy Donavan

This was certainly my thought.

Billy Donovan got a job (multiple) after doing the same though.

Very true. Donovan had a lot more cache though. NCAA multiple time champ and then coaching a WC Finalist. What did Atkinson ever do to be so picky? And I believe he was screwed in Brooklyn, but he should have never accepted the Hornets job if he was going to do that.

he wants the job when kerr is gone. good front office and ownership, good culture. They dont fire the coach all the time. Smart move.

Kenny Atkinson can kick rocks. I wish him no success in any aspect of his career. I hope he gets a job and goes 0-82. Reneging on a head coaching position is the lowest of the low.

And this is why they give him a second chance. Look at his record now.

I know this is a necro but this is a ridiculous take. It's way better than getting a year in and bailing. Dude had the balls to course correct, unlike someone like Doc who just milks the payday.
