One of the best things about being a Celtics fan is how much fans of other teams hate the Celtics and their fans.

If you ask me, the biggest mistake JT and Celtics have made is to be so damn consistently good for years and to follow it up with an all-time regular season. Combine it with the history of the Celtics and a large portion of the fan base are almost entitled with their expectations.

If people want to have those expectations that's up to them, but nobody has promised we'd never lose games or that when we win it will be in dominant fashion while somehow having a perfect record in the clutch. If people want to expect JT to play the right way while challenging double and triple teams to the basket then that's up to them, but if they have thought he is soft for all these years then I don't understand why they expect him not to be now.

People can do what they want and can criticize whoever they want from the anonymous comfort of their home and I won't care too much, but expectations have really gotten way of control IMO.

I do not think JT is soft, he is an amazing all round player who has improved every year and become a good, albeit not yet natural, playmaker. He has faults like anyone and sometimes it appears mental approach, but overall is amazing and we're lucky to have him.

No other star player in the league fails to finish through any sort of contact and blames the refs for it as much as Tatum.

Remember at the start of the year when he looked like he was going to bully weak defenders on switches?

Every single star fails quite often at finishing through contact, but perhaps you care less when that happens on other teams and so don't remember it as much.

I've got zero issue with you or anyone else thinking he's soft.

I do think he doesn't seek to run through people like Giannis, Edwards, Zion etc and doing so is not natural to him, but I don't think it's softness, I think he gets in his own head too much about when to play the right way (that if he requires to go through multiple people to get a bucket there must be a better option on this team so hesitates) and when the team needs him to ignore that and put his head down. The hesitation is the killer in these scenarios IMO.

I've seen too many things from him to make me believe he is soft, even if I know what people are getting at when they say that. I'd even go so far as to suggest the coaches and team no what people are talking about, because one of the things his personal coach has been working on this year is for him to be less nice and to try and bring out the **** in him. Can't remember where I heard that, might have been locked on Celts podcast.

People defending Tatum blaming role players etc completely missing the point.

Every title team needs a guy who can reliably get you buckets, even those last few Duncan Spurs teams had that.

Instead we’ve had Tatum shooting like dog **** all playoffs and barely exploding for points all season.

People say oh it doesn’t matter anyone can beat the other team.

Absolute BS. We saw tonight what will happen time and time again with that nonsense attitude and Tatum struggling to make shots.

The offence completely shrivels up. They start throwing up bad shots.

When the game was screaming out for a killer Donovan Mitchell answered and put the game out of reach in the third. Meanwhile Tatum was either bricking shots or standing in the corner while Derrick Ahite jacked threes like he was Steph Curry.

There is simply a lack of killer instinct and basketball brains when it comes to Tatum. He’s soft.

It has shown up time and time again this season in the bad losses we’ve seen. In both Denver games he was a complete embarrassment when the game was screaming out for him to take over.

We almost got sent home last season by Philly because of it.

He’s not entirely the reason we lost at all, but he shooting 40% isn’t going to cut it.

He is our supposed best player. Our superstar. Its ok to spread the wealth when everyone is having a good game, but when we have droughts, we need him to take over games, or at least do something to keep us in it. When Donovan was taking over, he should have at least try to answer back. I think we should just accept that this is who JT is. He’s not as offensively gifted as those other players. Mitchell can actually go toe to toe with Edwards, Brunson, Luka and Shai. Those guys can actually dribble, and has the ability to get to the basket, stop for a mid range, and has good finishing skills, even with contact. I don’t know how many layups JT missed. Some of them easy and1’s. I think most of his problem is mental. When he attacks the basket, he tries to avoid contact by euro stepping, then somebody challenges his shot, he looks for a foul, and not try to shoot the ball first. That airball from 5ft, 1 legged dirk like shot fade that airballed from game 1 says a lot. I bet he makes that shot 50 out 50 in practice. Its all mental and lack of skills with JT. Sorry to all fan boys, but its the truth. We don’t need him to be a good role player. We need him to act like a superstar, and not get punked by other teams best player.
