To me it starts with him. He’s playing like a 3rd option right now. Antman is punking the defending champs. He’s definitely several levels ahead of JT this playoffs. It doesn’t help that our offensive system is flawed. Maybe more now since porzingis is out. The wloves offense takes advantage of their heigth and length. We even turned Jrue into a 3pt chuckster lol
Edwards is succeeding in his method right now but has not come under the years of scrutiny JT has of how to defend him in the playoffs. The entire league have years of video and experience about every single one of our players flaws because we have been good for so long, yet our players have to date found a way to improve despite this. JT has been there and done that like Edwards in dominating playoff games.
Wanting JT to be Edwards is just setting yourself up for disappointment, they are different types of players with different strengths and both can dominate in their own way. I back JT to put his mark on these playoffs.
Despite this I agree for sure JT could be more aggressive, but when I watch him in those passive moments, it looks to me like too much is going on in his mind and I think a lot of it is indecision about when to play which way. We as fans expect immediate adjustment to massive shifts in play style for these guys.
Pretty much all the best players have down games and periods. I wouldn't even call this much of a down period for JT, we are just nitpicking because we never want to lose games and want him to be the best player in the world.
I haven’t seen JT dominate a series since sweeping the Nets. After that, its a great game, then an egg on another.
That’s why no analysts takes JT seriously. He has tendencies to choke in the playoffs. He’s too inconsistent. He gets frustrated easily. This happens every playoffs. I mean being the best player in the world is out of the question. Same as being the face of the league. He just doesn’t have the game or the mentality to be the best. I have come to accept that. I just hope that our team is good enough colectively to win. Just watch how brunson come up with consecutive buckets to bring them back in the game. Same as mitchell and edwards. Plus those dudes are dogs man. They are tough with their play and mentality. I’m sure you see the difference with mentality alone.
So if these guys are doing it every time regardless of the contributions of their team mates by leading from the front, the reigning 3xMVP must be pretty soft by not dragging his team across the line when the supporting cast is below par right?
Reality is there is always improvement to be had by everyone. No doubt our lapses are frustrating. But every single one of the players you have mentioned have not delivered every single time. You care and pay more attention to Celtics because you want them to win and either don’t watch or forget the times the others don’t because you don’t care.
I see Edwards as a different beast when it comes to mentality right now. We’ll see if that remains if and when he fails and is game planned and scrutinised more. Sometimes the benefit of youth and being a rising star is there are no fear of past failures to face.
Mitchell is no way near that and JT is better than him in that regard. Put JT on a team where he has no choice but to be the man because there are no other options like Mitchell and I reckon you’d find the over thinking disappear and he’d be super aggressive.
