POLL: TNT or NBC preference
Ernie is very good at what he does, no doubt, but imo not close to Bob Costas in terms of NBA insight and knowledge during coverage as host. And the NBC crew at the games were also better than those from TNT.
I just wonder if those who want to continue with TNT instead of going back to NBC may have never experienced NBA coverage in the 90s handled by NBC, so these new fans only have ESPN to compare TNT to. Those who were fortunate to experience both NBC and TNT coverage of the games are better informed on their choice.
Since there have been a few threads on this subject already, maybe it's time to put it to a vote on preference going forward. And to help TNT gather more votes, NO ONE from the TNT crew can join NBC, which means no Ernie and the gang, so all those comedy bickering will come to an end. NBC coverage will have their own crew which has help bring in more brand awareness to the sport in the 90s than TNT has and believe they can again and yes, it was much more than just the song, but what do I know...

NBC if they bring back pregame production like this. I love Ernie and Chuck but all good things come to an end.

**** Peacock, I will not be paying for their stupid subscription service to watch a playoff game. So TNT.
I will be using semi legal free streams for any and all games broadcasted on Peacock. I hope you read this NBA.

Re: POLL: TNT or NBC preference
It seems presumptuous to think that NBC's coverage will automatically be the same that it was, what, like 25 years ago?
I love Roundball Rock as much as anyone, but the Inside crew works well right now, and good God people, it's a song. If we assume they're not migrating to NBC, this isn't a discussion IMO.

Just because they did well in the '90s doesn't mean they can deliver the same experience today. No one from that production team is likely to still be there. With that said, they do a good job with all the other sports they have.
TNT's coverage of the NBA is excellent. Is there possible upside? Sure. But there is also downside and I would guess the downside could be larger. Regardless, I don't really care either way as long as I don't have to pay for another service to see games. I can watch everything right now with Hulu Live + League Pass. the Amazon deal is fine as I already have Prime. So as long as there are no NCB Streaming exclusives, I'm fine whichever way this shakes out.
Also, NBC has good talent. ESPN should go get Inside the NBA so we don't have to deal with their garbage pre and post game shows.

I love the current TNT crew. There's lots of entertainment outside of just basketball talk and score breakdown.

Man...those NBC intro's gave me chills! VS ESPN's "the flopping, couldn't make it in the 90's cry baby vs the overrated loser" that they do for their pre game.

You can't really point to broadcasts from the 90's to indicate anything for today. How many people even still work at NBC from back then?

Roundball rock is probably the most over hyped song in the history of music.
It really doesn't matter the quality lies in the commentators calling the action.

Re: POLL: TNT or NBC preference
Well, NBC in the past had a certain pageantry to it. They delivered storylines in a way that is completely unmatched. We don’t know if they’ll do that again decades later, but let’s just assume they will. TNT doesn’t deliver that. However, TNT does deliver a fun and humor that is also unmatched.
Meanwhile, ESPN offers nothing and is abhorrently pathetic. It is a shame that the only network apparently sure to get the NBA moving forward is ESPN, because there is absolutely no excuse for the completely pathetic product they put out.
But here we are. It’s ESPN + TNT or NBC. At this point, I think the best option is for NBC to win. Not necessarily because NBC would be better than TNT, but because the best possible outcome in a world where ESPN is inexplicably still allowed to broadcast the NBA is if something happens that radically improves ESPN’s product. And that could potentially come in the form of Inside the NBA moving over to ESPN. If ESPN got all or most of the Inside the NBA crew and NBC is anything like what they did decades ago, then it’d be a radical improvement overall.

I changed my mind on how great Ernie was as a NBA host....he would be great as a stand-up comedian cracking jokes.God Squad wrote:I love the current TNT crew. There's lots of entertainment outside of just basketball talk and score breakdown.

NBC will not hire him as a host but TNT is winning the vote count, as the poll results indicate.

Definitely NBC.
I'll miss Ernie, but Kenny and Shaq have to go.
Maybe NBC can sign Chuck.
