i like it pending the contract hes lookin for. i think Rowand can/should have the same kinda influence off and on the field as a player like Paul O'neill.

if we trade melky for santana or haren... i think this is a good move if the contract is like 4yrs in length with the ability to trade him

I rather sign Cameron (have Damon play the first 25 games) or try to convince Jones to take a 1-2 year deal, OR sign Fukudome to a short term deal. I don't want to give up a first rounder.

I don't know much about Rowan, but it does sound like he can be a Paul O'Neal type of player. He batted .309 and has some pop in his bat.

Don't want to give up a first rounder. Is Corey Patterson available on a one year deal?

I'd rather sign Corey Patterson and Alexei Ramirez (Cuban Defector) and have them platoon. I figure it would save money, and we'd also keep our first round draft pick. Patterson's numbers are not too far off from Melky, and while he's probably a bit weaker in the field, he also steals quite a bit of bases (I think he was 4th in the AL).

Too much money. He isn't worth what he is asking and what he will eventually get. I'd rather try and make a deal for Kotsay. He should be pretty cheap to acquire and his deal is up at the end of the year. Let Kotsay, Damon and Gardner split time in CF. Kotsay has a good glove and he is a decent hitter, although he had a bad year last year. Jackson should be good to go by '09 if not then we can deal with it then. -Jitpal

First round pick is a deal-breaker.

Aaron Rowand is not a Paul O'Neill type hitter.

Love his defense, love his heart, love his hustle, like his bat, the hustle leads to him being injury prone....we don't need more guys that are injury prone.

it depends...if jackson is involved in a deal for santana...then the yanks dont really have that legit prospect to block from coming up to play centerfield...tabata is still ways away and is more of a corner than a centerfielder...not sure how sold they are on gardner...so depending on that, the yanks will look at inner options, if not, look into signing out outfielder for 4 years or so...

rowand would be nice, i believe he is 30 or 31, so four years would be good, but at the same time you have to consider the first round pick and see if there is a similiar option out there that you can get for less years and save the pick(s)...hes a nice player though who will be liked in ny. but there might be smarter options out there.

Nope. We wouldn't have in the first place, not our pick anyway because he was a type B free agent. They would have only gotten a supplemental pick. Now they will not get any picks because they did not offer him arbitration. He just became slightly more attractive but I don't think I want him at this point anyway. I have a gut feeling that Boras would make us pay through the nose for him with what has gone on this summer and I don't think Hank would go with that. -Jitpal

Yeah I know, but I don't really want to lose a first round pick for Rowand, and if really want to really make a run, he's the next best candidate.

I'd lean to not on Rowand if he's wanting more than the 50 million range... I like getting Patterson or Cameron.

How is Alexei Ramirez?
