Kyrie Irving was always overrated in his career, until this year.

Post#1 » by DLoMor » Sat May 11, 2024 11:30 pm

I feel like this year is finally the first year where Kyrie Irving is actually not overrated and finally underrated or rated just fine. What do you guys think? Year after year everyone always called him one of the best PG when he hardly ever was. Now with the Mavericks he gets forgotten cause of Luka.

Nah he was great on the Cavs championship team, in the playoffs that year he averaged 25 ppg to Lebron's 26, and hit the game winner to win Cleveland their first championship.

However this new Kyrie that plays defense is definitely a plot twist. Never thought I'd see it.

Man looked better than the b2b MVP for large stretches in the finals. Off court chit made people forget how good he is

You can't be overrated as a #2 option on a championship team.

Kyrie has a championship. He's never been overrated either. The only bad thing you can say about Kyrie is his head is sometimes not in the right place. Dude was living in another planet for 2 straight years. Looks like he finally made it back back home to flat Earth.

He’s always been really good. This is a guy who has the 33rd highest career regular season BPM in history, and 44th highest playoff BPM in history. That probably overrates him some because his defense isn’t great (and his career BPM will likely go down as he declines), but he’s a genuinely great player.

kyrie is at the point of basketball Wisdom that happens with older guys. He’s reached the age where he just knows how to score almost at will so he chooses when to go off. He also probably finds it easier to play defense with more effort because he knows and understands the game more.

Things are just becoming easier for him.

He was always an incredible play on the court and anyone who is telling you otherwise is delusional.

His off the court antics derailed his career for a while.

I think what makes Kyrie Irving unique is less of him being a great player (which he obviously is), but more-so that he’s somehow a REALLY GOOD plug and play player. Despite how Kyrie is often pegged as a ball handling, shot creator guard, he can fit very well with a ball dominate player on the same court like Luka or Lebron, and get his numbers just fine regardless.

Nah it’s over 121 to 107

Clippers go on a 15-0 run right after this, and eventually win the game.

How was he overrated? Because he thought the Earth was flat? He was a knucklehead and did a lot of stupid stuff that kept him off the court, but he's always been a fantastic player. I'm glad to see him finally stay focused. He's an amazing talent.

He’s never averaged more than 7 assists a year.

And he didn't this year either, but now he's not overrated? I don't think you're using the right words.

And Kyrie has a ring making big plays in the finals and going toe to toe with the b2b MVP.

He was incredible for the Nets, literally must see TV everynight. It was the off court antics that screwed it up and that one series against Boston where he stunk. Other than that he was balling smh shame

I'm happy for him and the Mavs.

It makes letting Brunson go sting less. I'm also glad Kyrie didn't flame out. For a while there, it looked like he might retire to pursue a career making conspiracy videos on YouTube.

I think LeBron really kept Irving in check and made him focus on the task at hand. Irving’s always been a tremendous scoring guard and if you pair him with someone who can run the offense while he does his thing when needed, you can maximize his positive attributes and hide his weaknesses as a player.

Again, though... And?

People were saying that he was better than Westbrook a lot in the mid 2010s.
