My 2 cents..
1. Do not trade Jose Reyes. Ok seriously, Jose Reyes before his end of the season fun was a 23 year old stud SS in the lead for the NL MVP and as he slowed down and struggled the team struggled. It's common sense, we win when he is on. You cannot trade a 24 year old superstar in the making. Reyes is one of the most special talents in the league and he hasnt even come close to reaching his ceiling and fans and media are already wanting to trade him? It's rediculous that anyone in the mets organization would want to trade this kid even if we could acquire a talent like Johan Santana.
2. Do not trade low no our prospects. Why give away Humber and Pelfrey and Gomez etc if they havent shown what they can completely do? We would be doing exactly what other teams, The Os and Bucs did for us, trade us young talented arms for nothing. Guess what, those young talented arms they gave up are our #2 and #3 starters and emerged as 15 game winners. There is no reason at all to trade pelfrey of humber low especially since Pelfrey isnt even 24 yet and Humber had a great year at AAA coming off of TJ surgery. If we can't get a solid starter at a resonable price then we should give them a shot at proving what they can do. We have a 1 2 3 of Pedro, Maine and Perez which is not that bad. Sure we would all love to get an ace but if we fail to get an ace type pitcher, it's not like our rotation is in shambles. My main point is not giving up all of our young potential filled talent and panic.

Its amazing that some of the fans want to get rid of Jose Reyes, people really have a short memory. Sure he flaked out in the second half of the season, but he carried us in the first half. He is an all-star player, top five at his position in the league and is only twenty four. He is locked up at a reasonable contract and most of all you dont break up him and Wright. Reyes is going nowhere, not a chance.
As far as our prospects, I have no problem in trading any of them. In terms of pitching we have Guerra, Kunz, Smith, Pelfrey and Humber. Id have no problem in trading two of them for an elite pitcher that can help us. Same thing with OF's we have three prospects, we can afford to trade one or two of them.
With Minaya as the GM he is not shy of making these prospects based deals, look at the Colon deal. It wont hurt me if it happens, as long as we can a legit number one starter.

Well said, it's not like the Mets are really waiting for their prospects to take over. It already happened with Reyes and Wright. These two guys and Carlos Beltran are one hell of a base for your offense, no matter who is surrounding them. Add a legit No.1 starter from the AL who is propably the best pitcher in the last five years and you are set to make a run...
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...

The truth is we are not getting Santana but Haren is available BUT Haren is not a #1 starter and he is not worth giving up 2 or 3 of our top prospects for.

who told you that? 220 IP (with a 3.07 ERA in the AL), 192 K, 4:1 K/BB ratio doesn't qualify as #1 starter?
He's not a #1 starter and I am not going to overpay in prospects to get him. Honestly, he'd be our best pitcher but he's not that much better then John Maine or Oliver Perez. I'd prefer to keep our young guys and let them pitch rather then overpay in prospects for a guy who isnt a bonafide Ace. He's had 1 great year and a bunch of other solid years.

He's proven what?
Your acting like the guy has won multiple cy young awards or something. He's a very good pitcher, end of story. He isnt Santana.

The thing that scares me about pitching is that actual "Ace" pitchers are very rare. Pitchers who are great ever year for like 6-8 years (the Pedro's, Maddox's, Randy Johnsons, Clemens' and I'd put Santana in that list as truly dominant, great pitchers) - those guys are really rare. Santana may be the only one currently in the Majors.
Haren hasn't done it long enough.
Willis is too inconsistant. (great stuff, but he looses a lot of games)
Zito was remarkably average last year.
It's very hard to find a pitcher anywhere, I would consider worth a Jose Reyes. Now, Santana - he's close. I wouldn't do the deal based on fondness towards Reyes, but I think it's fair to say that Santana is worth Reyes (value for value), but no other pitcher in the league right now is.
Pitchers are too hit & miss. (sorry, but it's true). Reyes should give us another 10 great seasons.
- - -
but the downside is - our prospects are not worth that much. Pelfrey (started last year 0-7), Humber - who pitched so bad he couldn't make the team till the 40 man roster was called up. Do we start offering guys with good stuff, who are in single A? You get that low and the value isn't great.
Fact is, it would take at least 3 prospects to land a solid starting pitcher. More than that to land a Santana or Haren.
- - -
Makes it a Tough call - giving up a handful of prospects for a pitcher who can start for us now and win maybe 13-15 games. Best bet would be to land another Maine or Perez, but that might be wishful thinking on my part.
and - yeah, I agree. Don't trade Reyes, even for Santana.

Bill Clinton slept with an intern. A consenting adult and he got impeached and nearly disbarred as a result. Donald Trump went to parties showcasing underaged women brought in as basically prostitutes, and he says it's nothing.
Double standard?

Yeah there is not an argument you can make for Haren only being slightly better then Maine and Perez. Give Haren our offense and he is a legit 18 game winner year in and year out.

Haren had ONE great year, if he falls on his face next year in Oakland do not be surprised. He's a very good pitcher, but he's not Johan Santana, Chris Carpenter, Josh Beckett, etc.
