Re: Jazz 2024 Mock Draft Thread
I default to using the word 'potential' too often there so what I am trying to describe with that term is: what I believe to be the future capacity of that player to effectively carry a high volume of the team's plays on both ends of the floor and fulfill as many different functions in the team's schemes as possible.

Holmes could be a Randle replacement but with defense and a higher BBIQ. Paired with da Silva that would make you guys formidable.

For Sac, I might prefer Devin Carter to Flip but Ryan Dunn at 45 would be awesome. He's definitely my draft crush this year so I would be super happy to nab him in the second.

McCain at #6 and Bronny at #17 are spicy predictions. I don't see either, but who knows in this draft.

YEAH I suppose they are and I do think they're pretty unlikely. I do think McCain's stock is rising and I don't think it's out of the realm of reason, especially because I happen to think he'd be a good fit in Charlotte. I think the fact that he is a bit undersized at SG is complemented by the fact that they have a tall PG, and I think his intangibles would be very welcome in Charlotte. And that if they run Brandon Miller at the 3 and Bridges at the 4, they could really use a SG unless they feel committed to Nick Smith or Bryce McGowens there in the future or something.
But even though I do think there's a solid case I can definitely see why he probably isn't the likeliest option that high.
As far as Bronny, idk what to make of him. I do genuinely believe in his potential, but I didn't really consider him as someone who should be a 2024 prospect. I'd be more inclined to have him in the 2nd round, but also I do think that some teams are actually pretty high on him (or are at least willing to pretend to be)-- and I think the value of him as a pick is far beyond just what he brings as a player, even though he probably doesn't like that.
I think that LeBron absolutely wants to play with Bronny, and I have seen it discussed that teams might pick Bronny in an attempt to lure LeBron in free agency. However, I ALSO think it's very possible that a team would consider drafting Bronny in order to sort of hold him hostage for a trade to the Lakers, in order to get more value than their own original pick was worth. I don't know how likely it is that a team would use a first round pick to do that, but I also wonder what sort of price the Lakers would ultimately be willing to agree to.
I do NOT think that Bronny would last until the Lakers' 2nd round pick, and I do think it's likely a goal for the Lakers to have Bronny on their roster in 24-25. Perhaps they trade into another pick in this draft, but given that they DO have the 17th pick, I think the question is whether or not they prioritize that 17th pick in this draft more than appeasing LeBron. And it certainly is just a guess, but I think the answer to that is "no". I don't really expect there to be someone available at that pick who is MORE immediately valuable to them than LeBron leverage at the moment; though I guess that depends on where their priorities really are at, I don't mean that to be entirely dismissive of the draft class that probably isn't actually much(if at all?) weaker than last year's, other than Wembanyama.
