Re: Piston Pete Offseason Plan
I wonder how much Williams wants? He had that season ending foot surgery but he can shoot the 3 and play some defense
I wouldn't trade Duren and Ausar for that pick I don't think

Re: Piston Pete Offseason Plan
Duren and Ausar have fit issues on *our* roster. Why would Atlanta trade the #1 pick to make that their problem?

Yeah, I'd actually be fine using Ausar to turn Duren into Sarr. That's a good use of assets on our end. ATL could probably be heard laughing as they hang up the phone.

Agreed on both counts.

What could we add to the deal without adding the #5?
Stewart?
Grimes?
Take on an unwanted contract?

Nothing. Atlanta wants to win some games next year. They are looking for 2 ways forwards.

They're looking to move Trae Young, adding Ausar and Duren will regress that offense even further.

Ausar just represented the organization at the draft lottery. He's not being traded.

What if we instead trade Duren and Ivey for #1?
Cade
Ausar (defends best opposing scorer)
Williams
Salaun
Sarr

Salaun and Sarr are both super raw. Like 2 years away from being net positive NBA players. Ausar is also extremely raw on offense. PWill just floats around out there like he's trying to make sure no one notices he's on the floor. Gonna be a looooong year for Cade

Yeah, I’m sure we’d do it if we got a can’t miss offer for him, but we’re not going to be initiating any trade discussions involving Ausar and it’s unlikely in the extreme that he’s moved at all. His value isn’t at an apex right now so that “can’t miss” offer isn’t coming.
There’s a minor qualifier here that we really don’t know what the new guy in charge thinks, but like I said moving him while his value is low and likely to go up seems like poor asset management.
Really really hoping he’s healthy and takes a leap.

Well, we know he's going to leap out of the gym.....

At first glance I had some thoughts, and then realized that anything is better then the current situation.
I say great.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

No, because that would be a better signing

Why not just keep our assets and trade the 5th pick for a good proven player in the league? Then use our cap space to smooth all the edges
Cade/Sasser
Ivey/Grimes
Ingram/Ausar
FA signing/Tech
Duren/Stewart

That’s more my thoughts. We have cap space and a #5 pick to use. We don’t have to trade everyone to fill in the gaps.

Except that Ivey can't shoot and doesn't play defense... and Ingram is a high usage player that has fit concerns as well... and Duren didn't really play defense after game 3 last year...
But maybe we can polish the turd smooth the edges and be fine...

Re: Piston Pete Offseason Plan
Agreed. Our roster is flawed
Ivey is a so-so fit with Cade. He’s mostly poor on defense.
Ausar can’t shoot. At all
Duren can’t spread the floor offensively and can’t defend
We need to trade 2/3 of Duren/Ivey/Ausar for an upgrade somewhere - someone that fits better with Cade.
