Basically, according to Ken Rosenthal, Beane and the A's are no longer as interested in Heilman and Milledge as they once were.
Honestly, initially I was befuddled. We could have had Harden last year for Milledge+ even before his latest round of injuries. Heck, we almost had Roy Oswalt a year ago in a three way that fell in the last second that wouldve had us giving up Milledge. Seems like Milledge's value has fallen off the face of the earth the past season. I think teams are finally realizing that Milledge doesn't have a big frame and we all know that he has off the field issues/ perceived attitude problems.
After thinking about it, I think the A's are interested in Heilman and Milledge but are throwing smoke on the situation. I think their real intention is to get is to offer Gomez or Fmart in a package that includes Heilman and Milledge.
I think it might be time to switch gears. By the winter meetings if the A's still fail to give us any incentive to talk to them I'm done with Beane... It's ridiculous this guy. It seems like you make an offer and he sits on it for 40 hours and then tells everyone "no." Look.. I'm pretty sure that when Zito was in his last arb year, Omar mustve called Beane to talk about possibly trading for the "rent a Zito". And if we continued to dangle Heilman and Milledge at that time and he still refused? please.. this guy wants to rape every team on this earth for all of their players.
If this report is true, then If I'm Omar I tell the A's that I'm tired of their games...
At the winter meetings:
A) I will go after Erik Bedard hard. I'm willing to pillage their team. I'll take on some bad salary too (notably, Chad Bradford).
B) I would sign Dotel.
C) I inquire about the availability of Ben Sheets
D) I Don't want Livan, Silva or any of those other pitchers. I would honestly rather sign Colon- he still has much more upside and potential over those 2. He can be had much cheaper and we'll just incentive up his contract to 9-10 mil. I would even consider giving him a club option

E) If by the winter meetings Santana has yet to be dealt, I would explore the possibility of trading Oliver Perez in a package for Santana. Maine is off limits imo, I would only consider trading for Maine if we did not have to add another A prospect.
F) I internally discuss the possibility of giving Aaron Heilman a shot at being a starter. Hes got a good fastball and a ++ change. If he can refind his third pitch (slider, curve, whatever..) I'll give him a shot
G) I don't necessarily send El Duque into the pen. With our troubles acquiring a frontline starter, we have to give it thought that he starts the season. It's not like hes washed up and can no longer throw 100 innings without getting hurt. It's been bad luck these two years.
Sigh, more smoke n mirrors from Beane...

I look forward to seeing what Milledge can do this year.
If his value has fallen - then keep him.
