Thibs
After how this series turned out, is Thibodeau done?
Again, he burned through a whole team by playing the starters too many minutes, we saw it happen with the Bulls, now with the Knicks. Or is it just bad luck?
The Knicks are a great team, when healthy, maybe (probably?) better than the Pacers but when all the main players play heavy minutes the season is just too long.

Uhhh, what? No, this was a good season for Thibs.
Also you might want to look up the actual minutes guys played, it's not as many as you think.

Re: Thibs
It’s what he does
Runs your teams into the ground and then gets fired and gets hired to do it again
Brunson would be a fool to play for him again
Thin line between genius and insane.

Re: Thibs
the Knicks had depth. the problem is we lost all our depth. I don't know what you really want him to do?
one obvious thing is he should've brought Burks in alot sooner but besides that, we really don't got no options lol

a lot of the narrative is gonna be this now.. but the players love the guy and a lot of the injuries suffered can’t really be directly traced to over playing of guys.. they’re mostly just freak bad luck incidents

No way he's on the hot seat, he just got the extension
that said, another year of no ECF and more injuries I do think the city starts to turn on him

Re: Thibs
Injuries are not on Thibs, he played short rotation as all teams do in playoffs, his was getting shorter as injury list was growing larger - something Thibs had no hand in.
You might have an argument if you'd like to claim Thibby should utilize the bench more in regular season- he probably should've. In playoffs you just ride your best players - this is what they're getting paid for.
Knick starters did not log significantly more minutes than starters on any other playoff team this year.

Re: Thibs
Thibs isn't to blame for Randle, Mitchell, Brunson or Bogdanovic
You could say he played Hart and OG too many minutes and that is why/how they got the abdominal strain and hamstring. The other stuff wasn't due to fatigue/exhaustion.

Re: Thibs
Part of how Thibs wins is by keeping his starters out against other teams 2nd unit. It's a legitimate strategy if not a bit cheap, but it has its drawbacks. First that it puts a ton of miles on his guys and that tends to show up in injuries and exhaustion the further into a season his teams go. Second that in the playoffs teams tighten up their benches so there's less of an advantage to be had forcing your players to up their game when the game becomes hardest.
It's how Thibs is. It isn't gonna change.

From a fundamental standpoint it is better for a man to have nothing but be under the protection of Jesus Christ than for him to have everything he could ever want yet be completely without.

Re: Thibs
This thread was made before with the Bulls and the Wolves, people saying the injuries weren't his fault. This thread was literally made before in 2013 and 2018, it's the same thing then as it is now, people will defend him saying it's not his fault, even though Randle got hurt in a game where we were up 15 with 4 minutes to go, just like Rose got hurt late in a game.
I'd move on from him, thank you for building the culture, but it's not a coincidence when I can go through threads on here from 2013 and see the same complaints and defenses as the ones in 2018 and they now fit in with what I watched in 2024.

Re: Thibs
He got the absolute most out of that roster. and as a hardcore fantasy hoops player, i guess Thibs must be coaching all 30 teams. Because playing in a weekly fantasy hoops league is like walking with a blindfold on in a minefield with how many players across the league miss games and get hurt left and right.

Re: Thibs
I am curious if the training staff for the Knicks is an issue. I understand that Thibs plays his best players too many minutes but Nurse did the same thing in Toronto and players were generally healthy. It is a shame that so many players got hurt from the Knicks. This Celtics run to the finals is an absolute joke.

This is such a laughably bad take. It’s 100% emotion and eye test pseudo logic and has nothing to do with any version of reality. That’s just now how the body works. Mike, Stockton, Malone, etc etc played more mins and played more often and often times 82 games + a full long playoffs. As long as guys have rest days it doesn’t really matter to a NBA level athlete if you play 34 mpg or 43 mpg. Like it really doesn’t matter when you’re in your 20s and early 30s. Anyone that play hoops regularly knows how easy it is to play 45 mins of hoops once you’re in hooping shape. What’s hard is doing it on a back to back sort of timeline.
Look at ALL the other injuries. Are those coaches to somehow blame? Why do they not get blamed but Thibs does. This era of minute management is overdone. The rest should be because sometimes people just need a minute or two to sit and catch their breath. That’s it.
The problem the Knicks had is their entire game style
is dependent on effort. And that’s where i’d fault the coach more because he is an extension of management. They really should have flipped Julius.

Re: Thibs
get him like 2 more Weapons, i think finally they have found something and just need to continue tweaking it. Thibs leaving would not be a good move now.
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno

Knicks' depth emerged only when guys were out injured. And it showed that Thibs didn't need to play his main guys 40 minutes a game. But will he ever learn?

We were missing four out of our top eight guys, with another two (Hart and Brunson) also injured. Yeah, the latter two both played today--who the **** did you expect Thibs to play instead? The janitor? One of the dudes selling hotdogs?
This season, if we wanted to compete, we only could go about ten players deep. Thibs didn't overplay anybody--the minutes for those playing were not unusually high, and he/they wanted to win. Yeah, injuries suck. Most of ours were freak injuries, the result of bad luck and/or Embiid. We'll be ready next year.
