OT: Are Coaches In Suits Done For Good?

It was always just older generations wearing suits to begin with and everyone else is just following tradition until it slips, I don't think there's really a debate that men look better in suits, but no one always wears them to an event if you're under 40 and you don't have to.

As far as declines go, I mean yeah it probably is but it's hardly anything major. It's just that if you don't wear a suit all the time people find them uncomfortable, not because suits are uncomfortable but men don't know how to get clothes fitted anymore, and people in general are lazier. No one would criticise an individual for not wearing a fancy suit, or a nice dress, it's just a societal thing.

It has occurred to me that the people most likely to complain about it, were the ones not raising their children or really teaching them how to do general life stuff. I had to figure out everything by myself but my parents act like their generation handed everything on a platter, dude look around.

Why do I have a feeling some owners are pushing for this smh. What possible reason would the league offices and Silver be pushing to bring this back? It’s not like any coaches are abusing the current dress code or the players care one bit. I could see media caring about it because there are still a lot of older guys around

I like the formality of suits, dressing for an occasion and expressing oneself individually within its parameters, but concede I don't see the practicality of it for a coach who has to be on his feet a lot.

Maybe some middle ground about comfortable footwear or basic grooming lol

Wear team polos and don't look like a slob. Pressed clothing and a trim and comb go a long way.

Honestly the timing makes me think it's the new TV deal pushing for it, why I have no idea but the timing fits.
Also, it's not gonna be a popular take here but I honestly support bringing back the dress code for coaches.
It'll give the league an air of professionalism that has lacked a bit recently, and also, they are in charge, they should look like it!
Can you imagine Pat Riley wearing quarter zips and polo shirts in games instead of his Armani suits? It'd simply not hit in the same way.

If you're trying to sell me something...you'll be way better off not looking like you stepped out of a 1950's movie! I'd still recommend a suit in a job interview.

Guess you’ve never been to Wall Street. They all wear suits there. Or out to a nice steakhouse.

I have...I've spent a good amount of time in Bank Of America's main building down there. Didn't wear a suit there either lol.

I also heard the coaches and assistants like it cause they save on wardrobe expenses and pack lighter now.

I hadn't even thought about that. Imagine that Spurs Rodeo trip where they're away for 3 weeks and as an assistant or worse a trainer needing to bring a bunch of suits, ties, etc. That's be a huge pain.

I think when most of the general workforce wore suits, then it made some sense that NBA coaches wore suits. It would look a little ridiculous for fans to pay all that money and watch the coach, who represents the NBA team, dress down. Now that most of the workforce dresses more casual, I think it's perfectly fine for NBA coaches to do the same.

Funny enough, this thread was made a couple years ago when suits at work seemed like a thing of a past. But slowly and surely, suits are making a comeback at work.

I went in to see my doctor a few weeks ago, who has been wearing scrubs for the past couple of years. He was dressed in a suit (with a doctor's coat). I asked him about it and he told me he felt a little silly when he would see some patients still dressed in formal work attire and he'd be wearing scrubs. Also said that patients liked/felt more comfortable with him in a shirt and tie. Probably the same in financial and business sectors. People just feel more comfortable with those who make the extra effort with their appearance.

I'd guess on average the average age of a doctor's patient is pretty up there. So that could be a factor. Your even 40 year old's aren't seeing a doctor much on average.

Now days guys are wearing skinny pants showing way too much in their suits. And they STILL include freaking shoulder pads! They look idiotic!

Honestly, still like the baggy suit look better than today's suits. Just don't understand how you can be ok with walking on the bottom of your pants by choice (I got short legs so with off the rack pants that's an issue for me even with the shortest of in seams...and i'm 6'0 despite that lol. I was not made for off the rack clothing.
