Gordon Hayward

Post#1 » by rambo_ortega » Mon May 20, 2024 6:50 am

With him complaining about his role with the Thunder, his injury prone tag and decline but decent production, is he a realistic target for the Celtics this offseason?

Our core is set, and I think we have a very good chance to win our 18th banner, but we don't have much to spend this offseason for someone beyond those already in our team. Hayward is someone who has earned a lot in his career already and would prioritize playing time + winning. I really liked him as a player and I think he can be a key 6th man for a championship team.

What do you guys think?

He could be cooked, but if the core playing group are happy with it and there is no one else better at the min then yeah I’d love to take the shot of us getting use out of him.

Brad will not hesitate to sign Hayward.

The problem is will Hayward be open to the idea of just being the 11th or 12th man?

Give him a workout like everyone else and evaluate from there but he hasn't looked good in a long while. Offer no more than the veteran's minimum and 15-18 mpg bench role. He already has a good relationship with Tatum, Horford, and of course, Stevens. If he could be Batum-like for us, that would still be a somewhat helpful piece, more than the Svis and Brissetts.

I doubt Hayward is ready to accept what would be ... well, what would be a stay-ready kind of role.

For example: What does he do better than Hauser except dribble? What else does he do even as well as Hauser other than pass?

He might be a good replacement for Charles Lee.

He should just go to Indiana, win another in-season, do some charity work or something.

Why though?
And would he play for the minimum to be a garbage time, just in case guy?
I don’t see that we have roster spots to waste on washed up vets.

I sense your sarcasm, but this really isn't a bad idea. I think Hayward is cooked. I could see him on the sideline as an assistant coach.

I wasn't being sarcastic, except to suggest that Hayward's playing days may be over.

I wouldn't target him, by any means.

But who the Celtics add is constrained by so many factors: who from the bench moves on (Kornet? Tillman?), who is available, who is motivated to play for minimum pay, what mechanic of acquisition the available player would require and whether or not the Celtics can use it. And then of course there's the basketball fit.

These constraints are going to filter out most options, and the Cs will be picking from what's left. One can definitely see that being Gordon Hayward.

Hayward is done. Can't stay healthy. And the key guys on our roster were annoyed with how Brad used him post-injury.

Non-starter.

Don't see the harm in signing him.

Also while I do understand his frustration with the thunder I am sure they were just as frustrated with him and his seemly refusal to shoot that much.

Don't think Hayward has any interest in coming back to Boston. Think he ends up with Miami or LA Lakers.

I mentioned him in another threat. I think he'd be perfect as a bench ball handler ball mover. But with his current complaining, is it another sign he's a bad locker room guy? But if he's OK chemistry guys I like him as our Scott wedman

Why would we add a huge injury risk to a roster that needs contributors at lower salary numbers?
