I don't hate the idea of Grant in Cleveland, but the value feels off here. Swap out Wade for Niang, and it's closer.

I do. He's on my short 'just say no list'. Yet another undersized guy for his position, can score but contributes little else, and while he signed, the back half of that contract is likely going to be ugly given his age.

That 27 Philly pick is a bit complicated. I suppose if it conveys in 2027 it is fairly straight-forward but in 2028 it looks like Washington or Phoenix very likely will have first claim to it, so unless Brooklyn agrees to give us the most favorable pick out of that situation I think this would be a 1 shot deal where Portland either gets it in 2027 or does not get anything at all. I could be misreading it, but it does not look like a simple pick transfer to me.

And teams that owe picks either don't tank, or tank really really hard. So the chances of Portland getting a pick better than #20 are just not real great, so giving up Brogdon PLUS the #20 pick PLUS taking on Simmons is a lot of eggs in one basket for a pick that might never even convey and might be worse than the pick we gave up. At that point it does make most sense to cut out Brooklyn for the deal as-is. I also dont really buy the weak draft narrative, it has a weak top end but I haven't heard that it is any shallower than normal and I actually want my team to pick up another late FRP anyways. Gems to be had in a draft others may be overlooking.

That said, I am open to a side deal with Brooklyn netting us a future FRP for sending them Brogdon plus some incentive (whomever we get from CLE?) and eating Simmons. #34 and/or #40 might allow them to build some cheap depth with high second round picks they can use on 2 way contracts. Or possibly Thybulle but I would have to think about doing Brogdon+Thybulle and eating Simmons, I just wonder if there is something better for those two as a package.

I have this as too good for the Nets. Useful expiring contracts and a first for Simmons and that Philly pick just seems like too much for a player no one wants who makes $40M.

I also have this as a last resort for the Cavs after the more consequential trades have been made. Maybe they still have a need for someone like Grant after the dust settles, maybe they don't, but this isn't the move they should be making first.

Brogdon and Grant are both worth a first and the cap savings doesn't really matter, no one is gonna sign in Portland and we don't really need to sign anyone, the goal should be to get as many picks as possible and develop talent that way. I would rather trade them separately to get more value.

Don't get me wrong, I like him as a player, but the risk seems to outweigh the reward.

Much like Isaac, he could just be a player that is worth more to the Blazers than to a team that is willing to trade for him.

Most of the games he missed this year were because of the blatant tank job portland did. He basically got paid to ride the bench the second half of the season. Any playoff team could have used him, Philly, Denver, Phoenix, Miami, LA's. Just gotta find the contracts to make it work. I would send back a second if they wanted really cheap older prospects for another body.
