Let’s try this one on for size.
Suns balance their lineup at cost of their native son.
Cavs get a legit big 3 who should convince Mitchell to stay.
The trade::
Suns Trade:
Booker + #22
FOR
Garland + Mobley
Do Suns need to add swaps or even the 2031 1st?
Nurkic | Mobley
Mobley | KD
KD | Allen | Little
Beal | Allen | Little
Garland | Beal
Cavs Trade:
Garland + Mobley
FOR
Booker + #22
Cavs have a solid big 3: Mitchell | Booker | Allen. Now more assets for trade that should come next. How do Booker and Mitchell work together?
Allen
Wade | Niang
Strus | LeVert
Booker | Okoro
Mitchell
Garland + Mobley for Booker

I think its a good trade without any picks involved.

Re: Garland + Mobley for Booker
Evan Mobley is going to sign an extension on the first day of free agency.

Zero interest from this Cavs fan. Something around Mitchell for Booker i'd do. But zero interest in trading Mobley, and the gap between Mobley and Booker is not Garland.

Re: Garland + Mobley for Booker
I'm highly skeptical that a Booker/Mitchell pairing would work. My guess is that the skillset overlap would result in the combination being far less than the sum of its parts.

The gap is bigger than this year Garland, smaller than last year Garland, and this is Booker value dropped, last year Booker valie was higher.
I get why one would be reluctant to pull the trigger, but you don't value one side at best case scenario and other side at face value.
Defense wins draft lotteries!

Hmmmm. I am not so sure about that. Mobley and Booker have both proved that can’t carry a team to deep playoff success.
I think biggest question isn’t their fit as two superstars - rather remaining roster around them. Enough shooting? Maybe in OP a LeVert for Allen swap required.

This isn't what Cavs are looking to do at all. They already have Booker in Mitchell, and I do believe he will sign an extension. Cavs will be looking to trade Garland and Allen. Looking to extend Mobley and Mitchell.

This. Trades are not just about values in a vacuum, but rather the value added to the teams overall which is where fit comes in. If Mitchell has struggled to fit with Garland deferring, and Booker has struggled with Durant and Beal, then maybe putting two ball-dominant 2-guards together isn't the best in terms of roster construction. The Cavs will still need a 3, 4, and depth at 1/5 after this trade.

Re: Garland + Mobley for Booker
I might consider this for the Cavs if the deal is Garland + Allen + a pick or two, but I think 2nd apron rules prevent the money from working.
As-is I think the value isn't too far off, but Gilbert can't risk giving Mobley to Ishbia in case Mobley hits his ceiling.

Re: Garland + Mobley for Booker
I've got Mobley and Booker as close in value.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy
