Knicks Enter Offseason With Goal Of Trading For Big Star

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon May 20, 2024 3:53 pm

The New York Knicks are entering the 2024 offseason as the opportune time to trade for a big star, sources tell Fred Katz of The Athletic.

The Knicks have been patient in their efforts in trading for a star, such as the 2022 offseason when they couldn't agree on a deal with the Utah Jazz for Donovan Mitchell.

New York's roster will be more expensive a year from now as Julius Randle can become a free agent in 2025 and will probably receive a raise, as will Jalen Brunson. Brunson can sign an extension now, or wait until 2025 free agency to sign for a max.

The Knicks own all of their future first round picks, as well as the Dallas Mavericks' first round pick this June, and several protected picks from other teams.

Are you trolling? We have a ton of FRPs plus our roster is full of easily tradable pieces. We don't have any bad contracts. The Knicks and can put forth the most competitive trade packages in the league.

I think the Knicks have pieces that are easily tradable if a player is forcing their way to the Knicks. I wouldn't say they have the most desirable picks considering their outlook in the future. So, not sure a team would want role players and a ton of draft picks... But, an organization may not prefer it unless they they're forced to.

The only piece a team with a star that could be traded to the Knicks would want is Brunson. They traded the other 2 in Quickly and RJ. if they keep Randle at a reasonable cost, and add a bunch of picks... Maybe. But OG about to get overpaid, Randle too likely

This is a an okay goal but please don't strip the team bare to do it. If the right trade isn't there, just improve around the margins like they did in trading with the Raptors and Pistons this past season. Look at Phoenix as a cautionary tale.

That's just not true. It's the NBA. Stars rarely get traded for other stars. They get moved for picks and young pieces that can speed up a rebuild. Bogdanovic, McBride, Robinson, Hart, Divo, Hartenstein, Randle all hold a lot of value on affordable contracts. I think the Nova guys are pretty much un-tradable at this point but that still leaves the others that could net something with a bunch of picks either straight up or in a three way
