Lakers Are Infatuated With Idea Of Hiring JJ Redick

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue May 21, 2024 1:51 pm

The Los Angeles Lakers have begun the formal interview process to find their next head coach. Los Angeles has meet with a few candidates, and has meetings set up with several others. However, JJ Redick is starting to stand out among the pool of candidates.

The Lakers are reportedly infatuated with the idea of Redick as their next head coach. They see Redick as a Pat Riley-like coaching prospect who could lead the franchise for years.

Los Angeles has also interviewed James Borrego and Sam Cassell. They also plan to interview David Adelman, Micah Nori and Chris Quinn.

Lakers star LeBron James is reportedly not involved in the process of identifying the team's next head coach. Los Angeles views the next head coach as more of a hire for a team led by Anthony Davis, than a team led by James.

Why would one of the leagues most storied franchises be infatuated in hiring a coach with ZERO coaching experience?

He knows a lot about curls, but coaching? Was he ever an assistant on any level?

I'm sure a podcaster will fix that team...

Reddick thinks he knows everything about basketball and is smarter than everyone else. I hope he gets this job and fails. That should send Mr know it all back to reality.

Why? Because he's a podcaster that slurps Lebron?

Are the Lakers incapable of hiring an actual coach with a post season resume?

Acutally.. Nevermind. JJ is perfect for the head coaching job in a city of fake undeserving people.

That would be a terrible choice. They don't need another rookie coach.

Because Los Angeles is the Movie city, they are hoping for feel good story, but I'm afraid they will get a comedy.

Pat Riley didn't have coaching experience and they think he's the next Pat. Not saying I agree with it..but he'll be better than Darvin Ham. And everyone knows the Lakers do not like to pay Head Coaches a lot.

Why not JJ? Are not most NBA HC's former players? However, JJ as new HC only makes sense if the Lakers are rebuilding, there's a decent chance Bron is gone to a contender unless he wants to finish-out playing with his son.

I thought his being LeBron's buddy played into this.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

1) If JJ is hired by the Lakers he will be well compensated.
2) The Lakers really need a coach that will play "yes man" to Lebron and coach everyone else. Experienced coaches expect players to do what is asked of them. There isn't a coach, alive or dead, that Lebron doesn't believe he's smarter than. The solution: Hire a coach that also believes Lebron is smarter than them. JJ is perfect.

This whole "in-depth coach search" has been a complete sham from day one merely to satisfy the league's requirements to supposedly hold a fair and thorough interview and selection process.

It's been clear as day that Rob and Jeanie have convinced themselves that JJ is this generation's Pat Riley that will have amazing success despite zero experience in the role.

And I'm sure the podcast relationship with Bron is a complete non-factor.

Just hire the guy already...

Looks like they are already setting him up to fail if he doesn't live up to that lofty expectation.

I'm guessing the coaching job would pay more but is it enough to compensate for having to deal with all that stress and anxiety in comparison to the cushy media job he has now? (Assuming he can't continue to do his podcast let alone the ESPN work).

Having said that, I get the feeling he'd make a better coach than Darvin Ham.

They'll be still paying Vogal and Ham, along with JJ next year. Funny how a team that "do not like to pay Head Coaches a lot" will be paying three of them next year.
