I actually worried he wouldn’t make it! His defensive metrics are down this year.

He deserved to make it last year, so this is certainly worthy.

I haven’t seen the voting released yet. I am curious how close Ant came? He got votes last year, and he’s better now.

My brother said Ant got 4 points, NAW zero, Jaden got 66 with only 4 first place votes.

I am thinking the same way. He was actually better last year and the award is about regular season. A lot of these NBA awards tends to reward team success. If Wolves finish in play-in, I don't think Gobert, JMcD, and Naz would get theirs.

I had also listened to several podcasts back when they were voting that didn’t include Jaden.

He deserves it, and I bet his defense in the playoffs have made voters very happy if they voted for him in April!

Better voting numbers courtesy of my brother.

Didn't Jaden have a bonus for making the All-Defensive Teams?

I don't believe so.

He signed as boiler plate of a contract as you can. No incentives, no option years, no partial guarantees.

On his contract extension, yes. I'm struggling to find the exact breakdown, but I'm guessing it's around $500,000.

Not sure if and how it translates to this though, since he's on the last year of his rookie deal.

Backups absolutely can. He didn't play enough minutes in enough games. He crushed the 65 game requirement, but you have to play 20 minutes in a game for it to count towards that total.

He only played 20+ in 54 games.

That breakdown I copied and pasted from Spotrac, which I (and I know shrink would agree) trust over any other site.

I believe you. I trust Bobby Marks to know his stuff.

Nice that it doesn't affect us this year.

Jaden has 431k bonus for all defense in next years contract (first year of extension).
Him making all-defense this year means that will be deemed a "likely to be earned incentive" which means it counts against our salary cap when the cap year starts. Whether it hits our luxury tax for next season depends on if he actually earns the incentive.
So it counts against us for player signing, trade salary matching, and determining the restrictions we get because of our tax level.

Congrats to Jaden, well-earned and hopefully will give him some confidence.
I don't get how Wemby got 86 of 99 first place votes. It's all stats.
He's not a great defensive player yet and his team was not very good defensively.
There were at minimum half a dozen more deserving players than him.

I wonder how TSJ and Dillingham addition plus possible Anderson departure would affect McDaniels role. He has a lot of room to improve, and might be a true X-factor in offense

I think the biggest thing is that with more opportunities to run in transition, Jaden can get some easy buckets

Surprisingly I have seen his stats in transition that tell that he is surprisingly inefficient. Also I've read that Edwards and McDaniels are elite in cuts.
