That's funny. I was just talking to my brother today and flank steak came up. We couldn't believe how expensive it's become at our local grocer. $19 a lb!

I'll take my $19/lb Delmonico thank you very much. Even better on deep discount due to the expiration date. Get it home, into the vacuum sealed bag & the freezer.

Short ribs co-signed for crazy price hikes the past several years. Someone made it trendy and I swear they doubled in price.

ETA: I don't eat a lot of red meat personally - mostly a few burgers in the summer, and stews or braises in the winter. That said, I made bacon ranch cheeseburgers this weekend and...mother ****.

That's pricey, I only payed $25 for 2lbs.

You're right, though, flank steak is great.

It's funny, that's honestly kinda what I grew up on. Back when everyone had different preferences for doneness it was easy for my mom to throw a three lb marinated flank steak on the grill, some baked potatoes in the oven, and a bag of frozen veggies on the stove. I'm sure it wasn't an every week thing, but it sure seemed like it in my mid teens.

I mean, wings are now more expensive than chicken thighs or legs.

Since there is no thread for books, I highly recommend “The Wager” which is a true story of a 1700s British sailing expedition that tried to sail to Patagonia to steal some Spanish gold, got shipwrecked, mutinied, and had two separate attempts to sail to a mainland rescue port.

There is a beautiful chapter where the stranded sailors encounter indigenous natives, who live in canoes and sail up and down coastal waters, leaving no eco footprint whatsoever.

It becomes a fascinating exploration of which of our impulses are more beneficial, to voyage and exploit and find fortune at any cost.. or to survive and thrive without leaving a legacy. Lots of other thought provoking themes as well about hierarchy and empire.

Stay safe tonight, y'all. Forecast keeps changing and pushing back the rain further and further, but wind is really picking up and sounds like there's tornado threat.

Looks like Madison and Milwaukee are gonna be in the thick of it, though.

Closing in on Madison.

My deck faces West, here in Milwaukee, kinda hope to be home later to watch the storms roll in

Tornados have always (I think appropriately) freaked me out. If there's a warning a county over I don't waste time to see the swirling clouds roll in or hear the sirens.

This is my time to shine. Just gonna troll all the meteorologists and random neighbor people on Facebook. My favorite line will always be, maybe this storm will blow us into a better neighborhood.

Just got power back after 2 hours. That was a wild one by me. Multiple sirens, weather dudes and dudettes (shoutout to hottie for NBC15) saying we were in direct path of potential nados.

Watching the dark, ominous clouds roll through by me earlier this evening - with what looked like funnels forming at the tips - was incredibly eerie. They were quickly followed by insane rain and 75 mph wind gusts. Rain was blowing so intensely that it almost looks like it was snowing.

Looked bad on the radar. Unfortunately missed us.

Love me a good storm.
