A deserved callout to his running mate. I believe Tatum was 0/2 with a bad turnover in the final 2 minutes of regulation. And let's stop the talk of JB's shot won us this game. Don't get me wrong, the shot was massive, high difficulty, and so close to stepping out of bounds. It was clutch for sure, but the only reason we went to overtime and won this game was because Haliburton choked and turned the ball over down the stretch. He doesn't do that and JB's shot wouldn't have been enough. We were extremely lucky to win this game.

Jaylen has a right to not be very thrilled with the win, and not thrilled with how JT played to end the 4th. JB has shown growth and maturity and said all the right things postgame about Jt and how we have to be better.

Now, I wish Joe would just follow suit, but his insertion of PP at all the wrong times of this game was mind boggling. From the first time PP hit the floor, it was clear he wasn't running the offense like he usually does. We got extremely stagnant and Pritchard wasn't driving and kicking or doing much of anything. He hurt us on both ends, outside of the few big threes he hit. Every time he entered the game, Pacers went on a run.

Brown cause the turnover on Siakam right before he hit the 3 point shot. That was the game. Two big plays in a row.

It doesn't matter. He failed.

Last night is about Brown and how he saved the game. Not about how we all gave up on Tatum too early.

He was that bad.

I’ll agree Brown was huge, but saying Tatum failed is just dumb. Dude made half his shots and owned overtime. Brown along with Jrue was the reason we had a chance and Tatum won it.

Tatum was bailed out by JB, and wouldn't have gotten those overtime chances. His rep would have taken another huge hit, had we lost this one in regulation. He was bad to end the 4th.

We're down more than 3 if Halliburton didn't mishandle his dribble on the sideline. Game would have been over if Indy played out that offensive possession. This was before the JB deflection on Siakam.

I really didn't think I had to spell it out for y'all but let me try.

Is Tatum taking over in overtime if Brown didn't save the day?

Did Tatum miss not one but TWO close range shots with the game on the line with the chance to be him?

Yeah that’s exactly what I said. No OT without Brown and some good D in the last 2 minutes.
But Tatum 36/12/4 with a +20. Dumb to say he failed.

Jrue was great, if it wasn't for JB's last 8 seconds (forced turnover, 3 pointer) the Celtics were finished. Don't try to under sell it.

Joe Mazzulla makes clever move to propel Celtics Game 1 comeback

With Indiana nursing a 3-point lead and eight seconds left in regulation, fouling is the usual play to ensure a team does not have a chance to tie the game with one shot.

Rick Carlisle confirmed after the loss that was the Pacers’ intention on the play. However, Joe Mazzulla used a bit of craftiness to force the Pacers and Pascal Siakam into a bind. Jaylen Brown set a screen and then had a delayed one set for him by Derrick White as he curled into the corner. Jrue Holiday found him with the pass after a slight delay on the inbounds and that left Siakam in a tough situation with Brown already entering his gather in the corner.

“It was a very well-executed play by the guys to create kind of indecision,” Mazzulla said. “We were maintaining. I thought D-White set a great screen, I thought Jaylen had great balance. Great pass, great shot. So just a well-executed play by the guys. Good situational awareness, and good execution.”

No one asked you to clarify a point I already made.

Tatum failed at being clutch with the game on the line. Brown is why no one is talking about it today.

Something I see that isn't getting mentioned, Tatum's defense on Haliburton the last 5.7 seconds in regulation was A++++++++++

Brown's final 2 plays were absolutely legendary and should go down in Celtics lore of big plays. However, you're overselling it if you think we would have even had a chance to tie it, if Halliburton doesn't dribble the ball out of bounds. That opened the door for us to stay down only 3 points.

I really thought fans were gonna be different this year. Tatum missed two shots within 3 feet of the basket to end last night's game.

And yet I'm supposed to lay down credit for the OT he had?

It was great for him to finally be the guy but come on, it's way more important how bad he was leading up to just before OT.

The Celtics didn't play well last night and caught a massive break.

No one and their mother thought Brown was hitting that shot. It was the first time 8 years he's done it.

Just like none of you was surprised Tatum missed the two layups to end the game.

It doesn't happen around here with these guys. Brown was just as bad as Tatum in the 4rh. He had that pull up 3 where he barely touched the damn rim earlier in the 4th.

They got tight.

But as much as Tatum went off in the 4th, no one is talking about it with Brown. It's ok to give him the credit on this one.

Also. White was just about as bad as you can get. I doubt he's that bad again.

Brown was good on that specific shot all season, the corner three with a defender standing 1 inch from him but not contesting shot. He was better on that shot than wide open corner threes. It's almost like he spent the whole season practicing for that moment.

I'd love to, but he wasn't very close to Haliburton when he mishandled the ball out of bounds. There were 37 seconds left in the game and 17 seconds left on the shot clock, which means all Haliburton had to do was dribble it down to under 24 seconds and we would have had to foul. Haliburton also took a terrible off balance 3 with a minute left and them up 3. Big choke job on him, as much as I'd like to credit our defense.

And hit the 2 FTs to make it 115-114 less than a minute to go
JT also missed a wide open 3 to tie the game

I don't say that JT isn't clutch and JB is - according to this game - we owe JB for making all the right plays when the game was on the line

Yes, he was. And it wasn't just JB's shot that got them there. The defensive play was just as critical, and it's amazing how Jaylen was able to get Siakam to deflect it out of bounds, where he never touched him or fouls him, and never had even his fingertips on the ball for the refs to even think the ball may have gone off him. This defensive play was one of the best I've seen. And especially at such a critical point in the game. It allowed him to then hit the three, because if the ball got safely inbounded, the game's pretty much over, barring two missed free throws from Indy.

tbh, I have zero confidence in this team and their coach. Miami was crippled, Cavs were both crippled and weak. Pacers are neither. We were lucky yesterday. Being lucky is not a strategy.

If we win the title (we might), we will be one of the worst teams to do so.

Agreed, he was incredible and the main reason we have 7 wins left to the title. However, the game was over if Haliburton doesn't turn it over the play before.

I'm shocked you all aren't questioning Mazzulla from last nights debacle? Why the heck are we trying to foul with a 6pt lead and 12 seconds left on the clock?! He pulls JB and JT whenever we had a double digit lead and the bench blew it each time ? Just some real questionable moves......On another note I feel so sorry for Abby Chin during those postgame interviews. She can barely crack a smile because Joe keeps rambling and is VERY nervous around her. It's been a few seasons now, you'd think he'd loosen up a bit LMAO.

Return to Boston Celtics
