My bet is that Risacher will be the pick, had Bilal arrived demonstrating Risacher’s shooting abilities, the discussion of who we are considering would be totally different, we would be discussing Castle or someone else @2 IMO. Who knows, perhaps we will be shocked on draft night with our pick..

He gave credit to DX. Their latest mock has us taking Risacher at 2, and said most folks in the league think it's between Sarr and Risacher.
They have us taking Bobi Klintman at 26.

Haven't seen the YODA list but I'm assuming Clingan ranks pretty highly considering production and anthro. I know that some people are highly opposed to him as the pick, but I wouldn't be mad. It wouldn't be too bad to come away with some size and shotblocking from this really bad draft.

Everything prior to the actual draft is a total smokescreen.

I don't think it's a smokescreen. Sarr and Risacher have been 1 and 2 on several mocks for months now.

It is a pretty safe bet they are considering several guys at 2 right now. They haven't even had workouts yet.

Most folks had 1 of Black/Walker/Hendricks mocked to us last year and it ended up being Bilal. I do think they prefer an international kid though.

Someone probably posted about Devin Carter, I am impressed with the young man.

Dawkins and his team are elite in the international scouting, and have pretty consistently picked players with good production/numbers.
In interviews/press conferences, have cited “playing against grown men” a number of times regarding the Ousmane Dieng and Josh Giddey picks. Spoke on the growth spurts from Jalen Williams and Bilal Coulibaly on multiple occasions.

There is no way Dawkins can watch Risacher and think he is worth a top 3 pick.
Getting Tobias Harris 2.0 does nothing to move the needle for this team.
Sarr/Topic are the only guys with a projectable ceiling I can be okay with taking in the top 3.
I feel like there has to be a team that is coming out of a rebuild (Think Magic/Rockets last summer) who want to add 1 more high end prospect before trying to make a jump. Detroit, Portland, Spurs all come to mind.
I'd rather load up with guys like Edey, Holmes, Simpson, Dadiet, Chomche, Djurisic etc. type guys later on and hope to get our Blue-Chip guy next year

Yes. He's on my list as a sneaky good get. I was startled by his production this year at his size, regularly snatching double doubles with his work on the boards, but seeing his athletics and measurements it made it clear the kid is a player in this league. Only 6'3" but with a near 6'9" wingspan. Quick, great bounce. That will catch players by surprise on defense. Tough kid, moxie and focus. I like him.

Until i see it in games i will be skeptical. Not saying Clingan cant do it but at the same time i wont assume he can based on practice.
the FT% tell all. brook lopez shot 80% from the line as a sophomore in stanford and is a career 80% FT shooter in the NBA and even though he didn't make a 3 in the league until his 9th season, he "became" a 3 point shooter good for 35%+.
Clingan was a 50% FT shooter his freshman year and a 58% FT shooter this past year. he might be getting better but even in a light most favorable to his development, he's multiple years away from being a viable 3 point threat in the league. Like, he'll be on his second contract, maybe 3rd before he gets to lopez status.

At this point I distinctly do not like Richaser. To the degree that I'd rather have Clingan than him.
Totally agree about Devin Carter.
Here's hoping we trade down. I think this is a deep draft. My favorite pipe dream remains 2 & 26 for Portland's 7, 14, 34 & 40. Include our 51 if necessary.
Of course, as in any other draft year, trading down requires someone to trade up. I don't think that is as "impossible" as some here imagine, but... I could be wrong!

I don't think they'd be making picks for fit or need no matter what at this point. I think they were always going to go best available in '24, and for several more years, and make trades as they go from there. This is definitely a best talent on the board team for several years going forward and doubly so in weak drafts where they don't like much of the talent.

Any reason why you "distinctly do not like Richaser."? I haven't made up my mind on him so I was curious as to your take.

I haven't heard anyone with the Zards say "they don't like much of the talent." Have you? I think I heard Dawkins say pretty much the opposite...don't know whether it was a smokescreen or not though.

It's interesting to see how this plays out. A lot of the times this board since I've been around ('07 or '08) has been right when they've hated guys going top 5. That being said, when a guy is this high despite so many people hating, it's typically either because its an:
A. Misevaluation by the league's GM's and scouts and you all are right.
B. We don't know things they know.
Will be interesting to see how this plays out going forward, will the league be idiots again (reminding me of that classic "Oh no, we suck again" meme), or will we have missed something critical?
I have no idea. My only strong opinion with the guys being mentioned is that I think a Clingan pick would be idiotic period and makes zero sense in any context other than: A, B and C are all mega likely busts, and Clingan is the only other option, and I just don't agree w/that take.

Bleave podcast mentioned that before winning the lottery the general word coming out of the FO was: "no likey" to paraphrase, and that they were very interested in trading down/out if they landed in that 4-5-6 zone (which was a 50%ish possibility, maybe more going into the lottery). Now that they landed top 2, they sound more willing to stick and pick.
