NBA Formalizing Media Rights Contracts With ESPN, NBC and Amazon

The NBA is formalizing media rights contracts with ESPN, NBC and Amazon. These deals are expected to be finalized within the next week. Deals with the three providers are expected to return over $7 billion per year for the NBA.

ESPN will get the "A" package, which will include the NBA Finals, a Conference Final, weekly primetime games, WNBA games and likely shared international rights.

NBC will get the "B" which will include an exclusive "Basketball Night in America" on Sunday nights after the NFL season, a Conference Final, conference semi-finals, and two primetime windows per week.

Amazon's package is expected to include the NBA Cup (In-Season Tournament), the Play-In Tournament, first-round playoff games, WNBA games and shared international rights.

Warner Brother's Discovery may enact legal action over the rights. It's believed that the TNT parent company could contest its right to match the NBC deal. The NBA and WBD apparently have different definitions of what matching a deal would consist of.

It's not only the on-screen talent that makes the show. The crew behind the scenes is also to thank. EJ already said he's not leaving Turner. And the crew wouldn't all get up and leave either.

When the opposite happened and Conan O'Brien left NBC to go to TBS, he paid to move the crew and their families with him from New York to Burbank. It would take that kind of lift to duplicate the show as we know it.

Would have been nice for NBC and TNT to take it instead of NBC and ESPN. Mainly because like you said ESPN has some terrible shows, especially compared to the Inside the NBA crew. I heard Ernie will not move from TNT, likely just go and do Baseball, so while Shaq, Kenny and Chuck may go to NBC, it just won't be the same without Ernie.

Id bet the OTA games are just a single on Sundays. Better than nothing but I am not expecting much of anything to be OTA. I think they'll use it as a way to gather steaming subs moreso than anything.
