I know last time someone insisted we could blow past 100, but that's no fun.

I'm going to start with man Indy has to be kicking themselves. They should be up 1-0 on the road in a series they've been given no chance in.

But hopefully they just take this as we can absolutely play with them and just come out and finish the deal tomorrow.

Brunson open to 4/156 extension - could be 5/270 next summer

Post#3 » by Laimbeer » Wed May 22, 2024 1:38 pm

This seems like a ton of money to give up. He's had a couple of outstanding seasons, so 2023-24 wasn't an outlier. On the other hand, he is 30 next season and injuries happen.

Jalen Brunson turned out to be a bargain free-agent signing two years ago at $107 million for four years. All indications are he won’t hold the team up now, and that he’s willing to sign a four-year, $156 million contract extension. That would remove his fourth season from the current deal and provide five more years of certainty in New York, rather than waiting until next summer for a five-year, $270 million extension.

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

It’s a whole lot of less money too.

Would be stupid for Jalen Brunsont to take that

Rough estimate of how the cap could just seem stupid in a couple years.

I wonder if a Giddey trade is more likely to happen approaching next seasons deadline. Gives OKC a chance to rehab his value a touch and also other teams could find themselves facing directional choices if the season goes poorly that make him a more appealing swing.

I think it’s highly unlikely his value will improve from now in a potential midseason trade. He’ll be closer to expiring, and a team won’t be able to extend him after acquiring midseason like they could this offseason.

Plus one would think OKC is bringing in more bodies this offseason so there is a strong chance his minutes get reduced and possible loses his starting spot. I think the best offers are likely this offseason.

I like Chicago as a trade destination for Giddey. Just not sure what they would give up. Is Caruso for Giddey fair?

Maybe with some added incentive headed toward Chicago. One of Presti's trove of picks?

I haven’t seen it yet this draft but here goes.

I consider this draft tiers quite flat.
Theres only 2 tiers for me .
#1-#12 are all on 1 tier.
Thereafter #13-58 are all the same . This is kind of controversial but it ties in with the expert saying it’s a bad draft.

Do they even need Caruso? I think they need to get bigger instead.

So you are telling me Dallas has a pick on the 2nd tier of this draft? Sweet. Only pick 58 is worth more than pick 13 because of cheaper contract.

It's funny that we have lots of posters though who actually talk themselves into believing this.

Minnesota moving up to #2 for Wendell Moore Jr incoming. Maybe we even include Minott or Miller.

The Hartenstein situation is going to be one to watch this offseason. I've got to think that multiple teams are going to make a run at beating the $16.2MM early bird limit that the Knicks have. It would be a great use of the Thunder cap space.

At 10% increases . . . we are less than a decade away from players signing supermax deals worth a cool half billion
