Realistically, whoever you bring in will need some time to do their own evaluations and game plan. I'm with Canadafan on this one; take your time and get it right. This off-season isn't any more "critical" than any other and frankly it can't get much worse. What is the gameplan for long term, sustainable growth??
My assumption would be that if we are publicly looking for somebody to hold Weaver accountable and/or replace him entirely, then we should also assume that Weaver isn't making any big decisions without some oversight. At a minimum, Gores should have some type of outside advisor (not Stefanski) providing some council. We just want to make sure our assets remain as fluid as possible and if that means taking a consensus value pick (provided they are able to shoot), then that is what you do. Let the new GM figure out what to do with the pieces if need be, but let's make sure we get the right guy in place.
Then this whole thing about the new team president having full autonomy is BS.
If Gores is pleading with the POBO to keep Monty aboard then this thing is already off to a bad start. Either the new guy likes Monty and wants to work with him or you just rip the band off and let the new guy bring in his guy. Keeping Monty because it's "too much damn money" to buy him out and thus making him a lame duck of sorts is a waste of time and not how you want to kick off this new era.
And the players know what's going on. They know Monty didn't want the job and is only here to collect a check. He was the worst coach in the league last year. The only reason he wasn't fired mid-season was that ridiculous contract and the headlines it would make if you pay the guy an all-time bag and then have to fire him half a year later.
No matter what a front office does with this roster, you're starting off with a major handicap if Monty is on the bench still to start next season.

Am I the only person who wants a clean break from anything related to Arn Tellem? I want the stink out of here.

I want a clean break from every person in the front office and the coaching staff.

No more dinosaurs, it’s time to bring in a younger new aged mind that will make this team into what it needs to be. Trajan Langdon is that guy!
I would take Langdon since he seems to have paid his dues climbing the ladder, but I personally have a lot of confidence in Hammond's track record (yes, it isn't perfect). He'd be the most competent executive the Pistons have had since early-to-mid 2000s Dumars, and how much of that was Dumars and not Hammond himself is arguable. But maybe I'm leaning too heavily on nostalgia. Just give him me anyone who's not Scott Perry at this point.

No, you aren’t alone there.

Want nothing to do with a Arn Tellem connection until this front office has been cleaned out.
He continues to apparently be whispering sweet nothings into Gores ear.

The following pieces were already in place before Connelly was hired by Minnesota:
Coach Chris Finch
Anthony Edwards
Karl Anthony Towns
Naz Reid
Jaden McDaniels
The Gobert trade turned out decent, but the core was already in place when Connelly arrived. The Wolves sky-rocketed to 46 wins and a playoff birth the season before Connelly arrived. The point? Let's not act like Connelly is the architect of this team and its success. Because he's not.
Does that necessarily mean he wouldn't do a good job here? No, of course not. Just setting his record straight.

He did a great job with the Wolves, but his primary claim to fame is the job he built putting the Nuggets together.
Again, I still favor NOT going after him- I think there are high quality and qualified candidates available that we should move forward on rather than waiting to either overpay or be used as leverage by Connelly.
That's just my opinion though. Some will disagree.

Connelly feels like another Monty to me. Stop chasing people who'd rather be someplace else.

So much this. There are guys who are qualified who’d love the opportunity to have this position. Pick one of them.

These non-connoly names don't have the clout to fire Weaver or Monty and would be coming in as another layer of yes man. Connolly or Myers were only names who would come in with the ability to outrank Tellem.
Weaver = Hinkie

I’d go all out for Bob Myers. He seems like a classy winner and all around good guy.

I'm pretty sure everybody wants him out and for the front office to be cleansed. The Tellem problem has been a pretty big discussion point around here for years.

I asked because a few posts above it was revealed that Langdon's agent during his playing days was Tellem. And some here want Langdon... so not everyone I guess?

Re: New head of BBO.... who do you want?
Everyday that passes without a new POBO hire, means that the Pistons want someone currently working, and in the playoffs. Everyday that passes without a hire, it becomes obvious who they are targeting.
A hire could have been made already, and I'm sure their second choice is waiting in the wings. As soon as it becomes known that they can't hire said person, they will go with #2.
I view this, as a good thing.

The other side of the coin is that the recent news reports suggested that the agency conducting the POBO search for Gores are only just now taking the candidates (Langdon, Lindsey, Perry, Hammond) to him for a direct interview. Which could mean a first round of interviews and then maybe a second round for the top 2 or so candidates, which could take some time.
But I'm also optimistic that maybe it means Connelly is the target.
