Chris Paul, Warriors Could Move Back June 28 Deadline On $30M Guarantee

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu May 23, 2024 4:29 pm

Chris Paul has been linked with both the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs should he leave the Golden State Warriors this offseason.

Paul is on a non-guaranteed salary worth $30 million that the Warriors have yet to make a decision on. With a June 28th deadline, the Warriors and Paul could mutually agree to extend the deadline with the possibility of a trade using his salary as ballast. There could be a number of additional trade possibilities available to the Warriors if the deadline is extended, while Paul increases his chances of earning the additional salary for 24-25.

In 58 games last season, Paul averaged 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.8 assists in 26.4 minutes.

Paul is represented by Steven Heumann and Ty Sullivan of CAA.

CP3 isn't worth $30m right now, but there are a lot of teams that could benefit from his leadership in a reserve role AND the 2025 cap space his expiring deal will provide. GSW should be able to move him... but not for anything that increases their relevance next season.

Paying $30 million for leadership and expiring is kind of crazy ngl.

Not at all. Ben Simmons will likely get traded this season for cap space alone. Zach LaVine will likely get traded and he doesn't give you leadership or cap space.

This just crossed my mind, but why not CP3 to DET under his old pal Monty Williams? I would put money on a 15 game leap. That is a team full of kids that could learn a lot from CP3.

He can still play, he was one of the most effective players on the Warriors roster when he was out there.

The $30 million isn't guaranteed. They could drop him to save cash.
