Who are some of your favorite forgotten Heat players?

Dan Majerle played for 3 teams during his NBA career. Including the 93 Suns team with Barkley that lost to the Bulls in the Finals. He was a solid bench piece on those Mourning/Hardaway late 90 Heat teams.

Voshon Lenard was also part of those teams. He was undrafted and ended up starting in the backcourt next to Hardaway. Add Ike Austin, who was also on those teams and came over from a Eruo league, and you may have Riley's first two "diamond in the rough" signings.

Anthony Mason. All Star in his lone season here. Was kinda like Odom before Odom, albeit in a smaller stockier package. Speaking of Odom, man he was good that season he had here.

Caron Butler was one of my favourites. I was so happy when he slipped to #10, was an absolute steal at that pick and was everything you'd want in a SF.

After a terrific debut season, it was a shame he got injured and struggled in DWade's rookie year. Him and Wade would've been a really exciting 2/3 combo to build with.

Loved seeing him fulfil his potential in Washington and become an All-Star.

I remember watching that game. I thought the Heat were undermanned because they moved a bunch of guys at the deadline. But, I looked it up and it said injuries is why they only had 8 games. As an old guy I think Bulls may have stayed out too late partying in Miami the night before. :)

Heat has a long history of tough guys at PF going back to Grant Long. Long, Mason, PJ Brown, and Haslem. Maybe Long was the original OG?

They were a fun team to watch. It took Odom and Butler to get Shaq though so it was one of those cases you have to give something to get something. Also, it seemed to be one of those trades were both teams won. Shaq helped Heat win a championship and Odom helped Lakers win two.

I thought he was going to be pretty good. He won the 3 point contest his rookie year and I remember a play where he jumped out of the building to catch an alley oop from Wade. I thought he had the athleticism and shot (spacing) to be a great fit next to Wade in the backcourt even if it was a sixth man role. He just never panned out. Can't remember why the Heat moved him, but the deal was 18th pick and Cook for the 32nd pick from OKC. I'm guessing it was for cap space?

Oh for sure, trading BG, Odom and Caron for Shaq was the right move. But it’s an interesting sliding doors moment, considering who Wade became and how talented Odom and Caron were.

Brian Grant was also on the team. I loved the heart and how hard he played. He was supposed to be a PF next to Zo, but Zo had the kidney issue so he got forced in to a much bigger role. It's a shame because for that era I think they would have been a great front court duo. That team would have had Zo, Hardaway, Grant, Eddie Jones, and Anthony Mason. That's bruiser ball.

Hopefully his health is holding out these days. I know he wasn't doing to well awhile back.

Speaking of Caron and Odom, I have always wondered whether Riley and Wade privately wish they kept that young core together. Both bought into the Heat culture much more than Shaq did and they were never locker room problems like Shaq was.

I still can't believe how quickly and badly Shaq declined after his first season. He was only good in 06 during the ECF against Detroit; he was magnificent in that series and its the only time he played like 05 regular season Shaq.

The Big Egomaniac made a Shaq-sized mistake leaving the Heat. His legacy has been destroyed forever because of his nasty exit. Even though the media crushed him during the 15 win season, he should have just put up with the criticism for one year instead of bouncing around unsuccessfully chasing another ring.

Shaq quit on the team, forced his way out, trashed the organization after leaving and he STILL can't admit to his mistake.

He'd be thought of more fondly if he retired after 06 title.

The only thing Odom/Wade/Butler was missing was a decent center.

Shaq didn't deserve to have his jersey retired.

05 was Shaq's best year on the Heat. He finished second in MVP voting to Nash. Heat had the best record in the East and were rolling. Unfortunately Wade got hurt in the ECF vs. Detroit. Heat were up by 20 in game 5 when Wade got injured. Wade missed game 6 and wasn't anywhere near 100% for game 7. Heat still almost pulled off game 7, but Shaq says SVG stopped giving him the ball.

"Pogo-Man" Mark Strickland. Wasn't a great player, but usually gave a burst of energy off the bench when we needed it. Some pretty sick dunks as well.

A lot of us old geezers can still hear Dr. Jack Ramsay yelling out "LEH-NAAAARD!". I also remember the game Voshon lit up the Bulls during the first half and decided to trash talk Jordan. MJ then owned Lenard during the second half and pretty much every game after that

His legacy here was being one of the big reasons we won a ring, our first ring. He put us on the map, riding in that huge semi truck. He was larger than life when we got him. He got Stan fired which was the right call and most importantly got Pat to coach. Shaq and his legacy are beyond safe. The other big thing not mention is that by winning a ring early, it gave Pat rope for the big three. If Wade never won, he would not be so patient and put up with some of those teams Pat built. Winning that ring was critical for the big three to be formed later down the road, which lead to two more rings.
